The next few days had been uneventful, since the Rusties either sat around or went out to look for more spare parts. Rodney had created a 'makeshift' metal set of parts so that you could go out with the others without any worries. It looked a bit outdated, but it looked amazing, in your honesty.
You were close to the Rusties, but the biggest, special bond you've created was with Rodney. He had told you about how he graduated high school and worked with his dad for a year now before coming down to Robot City, which meant that he's 19, a year over your age.
To your surprise, you'd feel your cheeks heat up and your heart flutter whenever you're around him. Your eyes would turn away from him for a second before staring back at him. However, you didn't want to make it awkward between you and him because of your vast differences, so you were determined not to tell him.
"Breakfast! This will perk everyone up. Some of Aunt Fanny's fresh brewed coffee!" Aunt Fanny placed a tray of coffee on the table. The Rusties took their cups as you walked in with a can of apple slices. "Careful, it's hot."
Wonderbot drank from a cup of grease through a straw. When it finished, it hiccuped and squeaked sheepishly. You giggled lightly from that. "Excuse you..."
Rodney stepped in when you giggled and beamed dreamily at you. "So what are you guys doing today?" He asked the Rusties as Aunt Fanny handed him a mug.
"We're doing it," Fender replied.
"What about you?" Piper asked.
"Mr. Bigweld's disappeared, and you're just sitting here," Rodney stared at them confused.
"I think that's already been established," Fender stated.
"Well, I gotta find out what happened to him!"
"Hey, you want my advice?" Crank wheeled up to him.
"Sure."
"Forget it," Crank answered, which agitated Rodney. "Never try, never fail. Those are the words I live by."
"Crank, the idol of millions is gone, no one seems to care!" You watch Rodney walk up to the window. "There should be an angry mob out there...what the—?!" When he did a double glance, a large mob of robots rushed towards somewhere, passing by the house. You took a look out the window as well and stifled your laughter, earning a one-sided glance from Rodney.
After putting on your disguise parts, you followed Rodney and Fender outside and watch the mob rush past you.
"Oh, that was great, psychic friend! Now say, 'Money should be falling from the sky!'" Fender exclaimed. "Say it! Say it!" He clung onto Rodney, sobbing. You couldn't help giggling slightly.
The mobs were yelling at Jack Hammer, the owner of a parts and upgrades shop, as a truck full of upgrades rolled up. The new motto, 'Why be you when you can be new?' was on the side, with a man with silvery, slicked hair and a smug grin alongside it. When you saw the man on the truck, the hairs stood up from the back of your neck. There's something about him that made you terrified.
"We can't afford upgrades!" One bot shouted.
As you and the others approached the mob, another bot spotted you. "Hey, isn't that the guy that fixed Fender's neck?"
"Yeah, that guy fixes bots!"
"Yeah, that kid can help ya!" Jack Hammer pointed at your group. At this, the mob began approaching you.
"Brace yourself. You're about to be very popular," Fender whispered to Rodney.
You were getting scared of the approaching bots since you were used to being alone back at school and being picked on by a few kids. Despite being here long enough to know they wouldn't hurt you, this is still a new experience for you. You absentmindedly took hold of Rodney's hand, and he squeezed back in reassurance.
