Serial killers, drug addicts, domestic abuse, and gangs don't normally go hand in hand with the Reanor name, but when Cayden Reanor is assigned to tutor Devyn Rico, his world plunged into the unknown. He vows not to get involved until he notices the bruises and cuts on her that everyone else is oblivious to. But Cayden also has to worry about his sister being pulled back into that world and must learn how to protect his sister and the girl who quickly becomes one of the most important people in his life simultaneously.
Devyn Rico's life has never been easy. Her mother walked away, her father died before she entered high school, and she was sent to a foster home that is any kid's worst nightmare. To top it all off, she has to protect the three other kids in the home as much as she can. Needless to say, passing her classes aren't a priority for her.
Will Devyn be able to keep her secrets and lies straight and will Cayden be able to protect everyone he cares about?

I wanted to scream at her that of course I didn't care. None of it mattered anymore.

When Devyn Rico is assigned a tutor in order to pass junior year, she's forced to keep the lies straight in her head. She can't allow her tutor, Cayden Reanor, to find out what's really happening to her, nor can she allow anyone to know that she's being tutored. But Cayden has his own secrets to keep and they make a deal not to get involved in each other's lives, but both find it hard to keep up their end of the bargain.
Devyn finds out that Cayden's life isn't so perfect, and Cayden finally sees the scars and bruises on Devyn that no one else can.

Let's be honest, guys. I suck at updating schedules, so I'll probably just update whenever the chapter's ready.

Everything I write in here is pure fiction. Some of it is based upon how real life is, but a lot of it is to make the plot move along. I'm sorry if that offends anyone and if I got something completely wrong let me know.

This story has to do with violence, the foster care system, death, and mental health disorders. While I do have some experience with mental health disorders, I am not as well-versed in the foster care system, so as I said before, it's mostly to move the plot along.

1) Devyn is a girl. Generally speaking, I know that Devyn is traditionally a boy's name, but it is in fact unisex and I thought it suited this character.
2) Throughout most of this novel, Devyn suffers from anxiety and will have panic attacks. I will have trigger warnings at each chapter she has one in, so please if you can't handle it skip to the end and I will give a brief summary of what the chapter is about so you won't be lost.
3) This story will be dealing with drug and alcohol addiction, as well as rape. Again, trigger warnings and summaries will be given.
4) I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM THEREFORE THIS IS NOT AN ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF IT.

Every chapter is told in Devyn's POV unless said otherwise at the top.
