Lime's PoV:

I was out of breath by the time I reached medbay.

As I hung off the doorframe to catch my breath, I noticed that Black had begun turning off the machines in the small, pale blue-walled room, his expression a mixture of sorrow and frustration.

"W-we're too late?" I gulp, feeling sick and dreading the answer. I already knew that it was going to be, but was just desperate to hear otherwise. There can't be another death...

He slowly nods, not saying a word.

Unable to process the situation, I half sat, half collapsed onto the floor, leaning against the wall with my head in my hands.

"It should have been me" he mutters, the first words he'd spoken since I'd entered the room

"No, no, no, stop saying that it's your fault" I insist, but I feel so weak and it comes out as a pathetic whine.

Gripping onto the rails of the hospital bed to steady himself, Black quickly shakes his head, replying in a bitter tone "I'm not going to. Because it's the truth". He seemed really angry, angry at himself, just glaring into space.

Sighing, I push myself off the floor to stand up again, placing myself on the other side of the hospital bed so I was facing him. "I should have helped you. During the fight."

Black's eyes suddenly change from resentment to pure and utter shock in a fraction of a second. "You would've gotten hurt!" This makes me jump, and his voice turns to a whisper as he points towards Blue "that could've been you"

I didn't understand what had happened with Black. Usually he was so calm and collected, kinda like Blue used to be. Perhaps.... the guilt had just been eating him from the inside this entire time, and I'd just simply not noticed. That was a frightening thought... that someone could be struggling so badly but you wouldn't realise until, maybe... until it was too late.

"Promise me" he whispered, staring straight into my eyes. "that you'll never get yourself involved in a fight"

"O-Okay..." I gulp, before turning my attention to the dead body that lay in between us. "So..."

"We have to tell him. It's not like we can pretend everything is okay" he mutters. "I- could you? Lapis... probably won't take the news well from me..."

"Alright" I nervously agree, even though it was really the last thing I wanted to do.

But.....hopefully....this might be the last death.
