It's funny how your whole life's purpose can change in just a few days. I had been able to assume that it was probably more than just one day. What I mean by that is: being home at first, running to Diamond Lake, seeing him, getting brutally stabbed, waking up in a cave chained to a rock, me screaming at him, me crying multiple times, the both of us exchanging our dreams and pouring out our souls to each other, him committing suicide for me so I could live a life without all the pesky dramas of being traumatized, me sobbing, again, and then running into the ocean, my only sanctuary, me washing up on shore like an insignificant piece of seaweed, only to find myself in the very appealing embrace of a very handsome stranger. Oh, and I forgot to mention the treacherous nightmares plaguing my mind every time I close my eyes. I'm almost positive that didn't all happen in one day. My life is just peachy, ain't it?
When I awoke, I was completely out of sorts, very disorientated. The whole world fuzzed into one giant blurry mass of unintelligible nothingness. And as for the fact that I was extremely aware of being in this boy's arms, I was quite speechless, but I gave it a shot anyway.
"Um....... Would you mind telling, oh, I don't know. Perhaps why I am on a strange beach that I have never seen before, on an island, soaking wet and in the arms of the most handsome boy I've ever seen in my life, who, by the way, is a stranger?" I asked, sarcasm dripping from my voice. I know, I know. I just blurted out that I thought this guy was handsome, but I was still groggy and I didn't know what I was saying. Give me some credit.
The boy just kept on smiling, amused, before using his fingers to move the dripping, ink-black bangs out of his stunning eyes. "Why don't you tell me why the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my life washed up on the shore, drowning, so I naturally jumped into the freezing water heroically to save her from certain death? You must know why you were, well, floating on the ocean. How did you end up in there? Do you remember? Or did you suddenly get amnesia? Oh, I know! You're a mermaid, aren't you? You have the beauty for sure." He seemed completely unfazed that he just said I was pretty and that I washed up on shore without explanation. Totally confident. Brave.
I blinked. Did he just say I was...Pretty? Twice? He couldn't be talking to me. Why would he? I'm nothing special. For lack of anything else to do, I just rolled my eyes. This boy is stubborn. "I'm not a mermaid! At least, that I know of. I keep getting surprises, and that just might be one of them. I shouldn't expect any different. Stranger things have happened to me. Just tell me where I am, please?"
"But of course, fair maiden." He said, obviously trying to bug me. It was kind of..... Intriguing. Endearing. "You are on the island of Morrowind, located off the east coast of Lorialee, currently in the arms of, and I quote," He cleared his throat dramatically and put on an exaggeratedly girly imitation of my voice. "The most handsome boy you have ever seen in your life." He smirked knowingly.
I blushed. "I did not say that!"
"Oh, yes you did." He looked satisfied with himself, smirking a very winning smirk, which made it hard for me not to smile. He had the most adorable-- I mean smug expression on his perfect face. "Oh, and by the way, how nice of you to grace me with the honor of still being able to hold you. I have noted that clearly you haven't protested. You must be enjoying it as much as I am."
"You wish." I undid his hands around me and scrambled up, planning on walking away and forcing myself not to stay. The instability of the sand made me stumble, the dizziness not helping either, and in one swift movement, I felt his hand circle my waist to catch me in an elegant dip like that of the old waltz dance my dad taught me when I was young.
"I do wish so. And you should be more careful." He said, still holding me in the dance position. "Next time we might be in an even more contemplating position." I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
