I woke up and there was breakfast at the table.

I was surprised to see her making coffee.

Smiling at me she said. "How'd you sleep Maya?"

"Fine," I replied concerned. I wasn't used to her even talking, let alone ask me how I slept. I sat down and didn't even glance at the food before I scarfed it down. I missed her cooking.

I woke up to broad daylight. I guess I passed out to lack of food. I haven't eaten in a while.

I looked around and saw a gas station in the distance. I started walking towards it.

When I reached it I walked towards the entrance and entered the gas station. My stomach grumbled when I saw the food isles and smelled donuts and pizza.

I packed about seventy dollars in my bag.

I grabbed a few water bottles and some chip bags, two pizzas and several donuts, and of course when I saw the wrapped sandwiches I grabbed one of those too.

Walking towards the cashier juggling about maybe fifty dollars worth of food and snacks. The cashier looked at me weirdly and started scanning my items.

"forty six, seventy seven, please," he said while bagging the rest of my snacks.

I looked away for a second grabbing my bag and pulling out two twenties and a ten.

These snacks will last me a while, I think. I look at the cashier and hand him the money. He looks at me surprised but he counts out my change handing me back three dollars and twenty three cents. I pack it in my bag and stuff my food and snacks in my bag.

I walk out of the store and started down the block, but after a few seconds I heard the sirens. I continued walking thinking they would go past me, but to my surprise and panic they stopped right next to me.

"Freeze! Put your hands up!" One of them shouted through a speaker thing. Instead of stopping though I bolted. I ran through the streets and lawns and around trees, but hunger and exhaustion slowed me down and I heard the clomping of someone chasing me come closer.

Suddenly my legs decided to rebel and they collapsed under me. I faceplanted on the ground and groaned in pain. I couldn't get up I didn't have the energy nore the strength to get up and run. So I just layed there.

"Don't move!" The person chasing me yelled. Like I could move anyways.

I felt him push me more into the ground and I groaned again, wincing. I felt him look at me and I was terrified of what was gonna happen to me. He must've seen the terrified look on my face and he was a lot more gentler but still went through the procedures putting my hands behind my back and cuffing me. I somehow got some of my energy back to kick and thrash against him.

"Let me go!!" I screamed at him in panic. But he just responded by putting a knee on my back and holding me down until I stopped moving and just layed there panting and crying.

He stood up picking me up with him but my legs still weren't working and I just collapsed on my knees again. My chin hitting my chest I gave up. He knelt in front of me and held my face slapping my cheeks but I couldn't see or hear him and I just blinked blankly at him.

He yelled something and someone handed him something.

Suddenly something cold hit my face and left me staring at him in shock spluttering.

"Did you just throw water at my face?" I croaked at him confused.

"Yes, I needed to bring you back somehow," he told me.

"Can you uncuff me?" I asked haughtily.

"Are you going to run?" He countered my question with one of his own and i thought about that for a moment then shook my head.

He uncuffed me and held my shoulder keeping me in place. I rubbed my wrists and winced at the stinging I felt.

"The cashier reported a girl-you-that looked like she ran away from home."

I nodded looking at the ground.

"Where do you live?"

I shook my head and started crying again.

The officer saw how upset I was and tried comforting me putting his arms around me giving me a hug. I couldn't keep it in anymore and my emotions poured out. I screamed and sobbed falling to the ground. The officer fell with me still hugging me.

He could tell I was in rough shape and needed comfort.

Surprisingly, he picked me up and put me in the back of his car. He buckled me in and shut the door. He walked over to the cashier and started talking to him, asking him questions, I presume, that I couldn't hear, but I was trying to listen in on them anyways.

All of a sudden all I could hear was static and my vision tunneled. A splitting pain went through my head and I screamed before I passed out.
