"You should leave." I felt a tear forming in my eye and my mind replayed the scene of that night. I straightened and stared at him.
"Lyna," He pleaded.
"Don't. It's Doctor Evlan." I found myself struggling to keep him out of my mind. I don't want to cry. No more.
He looked like he was in pain. Good.
"I was alone." I breathed out. I don't know what made me opened up now but I need to get this out. "I ran after you but you never look back. So why should I look back now? Huh?"
"Because I still love you and I know you still love me too." He said, keeping his eye contact with me.
"We need to talk. But not in here." He took steps towards me and grabbed my hands. "I missed you." His arms wrapped around me, pressing me to his chest. I wanted out of his hold but honestly, this was where I've been missing. I wanted to be here. In his arms. I've forgotten how peaceful it felt.
"I have to work." I struggled out of his hold and turned away from him stiffly. "I have to work."
Soft footsteps walked out of my office and with a click of the door, I was alone.

"The truth is I'm not capable of telling the truth. Maybe one day I will learn how to, but for now, let's hide behind the lies...I'll knock once. I'll knock twice. I'll knock as many times till' you open that tightly locked heart of yours. I'm sorry my wickedness tightens the lock. I couldn't provide you the assurance that I would stop being wicked. I'm sorry I caused you the pain of confusion in the midst of my darkness. With all my heart, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I can't stop knocking." Yulie said, reading her new idea for her new book.
"Well, that's one romantic mess." My best friend, Kyle, said, grabbing a bottle of wine and four glasses. He gave out the glasses and pour us the drinks.
"Too corny for my taste." Q murmured.
My three best friends crashed my house even before I got home. They let themselves in. Their excuse is they don't need one.
"Seriously?" Yulie placed her Macbook on the table and crossed her legs on the couch. "I thought it was a nice touch. I want this letter to be really sweet."
"Yeah, the 'I'll knock once, and twice' shit killed it," Q said, taking a sip of her drink.
"Why did I even read it to you bitches?!!" Yulie lost her patience. Typical. "What do you think, Dr. Evlan?" Her words were acidic. If I say anything wrong, my head would be on the table in the next minute.
"Very poetic," I said, not wanting to anger the tiger even more.
"Thank you. At least someone appreciates my work." She gulped her drink without a stop. "You know what? I'm going to give you my gift card for La Perla since you're so nice to me today while everybody else been such an asshole."
"Why would I need a gift card for La Perla?" I questioned.
"So you can get yourself some actions while you're in Australia." She raised her eyebrows up and down while Kyle whistled.
"I'm pretty sure, she can afford her own underwear, Yulie." Q rolled her eyes, placing her feet on my table.
Every time Yulie comes to my home, she always goes back to topics such as lingerie. La Perla is one of her favorite luxury Italian lingerie stores. Half of her closet is from that store. For a well-respected author, she does have a weird hobby. Not that I mind, but when it comes to the point where she comes knocking on my door at 3 a.m. in the morning asking for batteries. It's way too much for me to handle. When I asked "why", She said it helped her with her writing.
"No girl can refuse a gift card. It's technically getting free stuff and who doesn't want free stuff?" Yulie proclaimed.
"Whatever," Q said.
"How long are you going to be in Australia anyway?" Kyle asked, taking a seat next to me on the black sofa, with his right arm around my shoulder.
"A week." I looked at him in suspicion. I already told him this and he always remembers everything I told him. There's only one reason why he asked me again. "No, Kyle."
"I didn't even say anything." He exclaimed, shockingly.
"Oh please, it's so obvious. You and lover boy wants to do it in her apartment while she's gone." Q said. She's always a straight-to-the-point girl. Gotta love her.
"What?" Kyle's voice became higher.
I shook my head in disbelief. "Kyle! Leila's going to be here with Onesy and Viny. Don't you dare come to my house with Christian."
Kyle and Christian met on a dating website three years ago and ever since then, they've been together. Yulie's engaged to her artistic boyfriend, Michael. It's just me and Q who are still single.
"Okay, fine. But seriously, wouldn't you guys have sex in her apartment? I mean look out the window. Fucking amazing view." He pointed at the window, a view of the Manhattan buildings and all the light that seemed to never go off.
"Right! Her apartment looks way better than mine and we live in the same building." Yulie said.
"Maybe because of your fiancé's paintings cover the view all the time." Another one of Q's remarks.
I laughed. Hanging out with them never gets old. I felt the change in the air when the bell rang.
"Who else did you guys invite to my house?" I asked. They all shrugged.
I walked up and opened the door.
"Elijah."
