So much happened after he left. Julian dropped unconscious right when he entered his room. We found blood cloth in his leg which had traveled to his lungs. I couldn't believe how his last doctor hadn't seen this. He's currently in surgery for about four hours.

My shift ended an hour ago. I wanted to stay but I remind myself that I can't do that for all my patient all the time. It's pouring rain outside. My house is a twenty minute walk from the hospital so I've always walk to work, ride a bicycle or rarely, I'll drive my car. Stupid of me for not checking the weather app. My clothes are drenched, and I'm hoping the files I had with me aren't wet. I ran as fast as I could and was welcomed by a warm tackle from my giant St. Bernard, Viny.

"Oh hello to you too! How's my big boy?" I shuffled his ears and furs. He replied me with a bark. He's so soft. Now, where's my fat black cat? "Onesy!" I called.

"He's been missing you."

I looked up to Leila, my pet-sitter, holding Onesy. She's currently on the road to becoming a veterinarian. "I'm sure he does. How are you doing?" I asked, standing up, dropping my purse on the counter and took off my coat.

"I have finals in three days, so I brought some of my study stuff here. You don't mind right?" Her voice gradually got smaller because she was a bit scared of what I was about to say.

"Of course not. As long as Viny and Onesy are taken care of. You're free to do ur studying here. I thought I told you that before." I smiled at her. She's a sweet young lady. She sneaked out of her parents house and took the first plane from Paris to New York City to learn to be independent. Sure, her parents are currently furious with her but they soon learn that their lovely daughter wants to grow up.

"Hmm..thanks. Why don't you hit the shower before you get sick? I'll be here till' you're done." She said, grabbing a mug from the kitchen and filled it with hot green tea.

"You can leave now if you want. I don't mind. Just bring an umbrella." I patted her shoulder. "Oh, and here is your payment." I grabbed a white envelope from my purse and gave it to her.

"You know for a job like this, you pay me way too much than other jobs." She pursed her lips.

"Do you have a problem with it?" I smiled, crossing my arms.

"Nope."

Honestly, I'm worried about her. I treated her like my own sister and for someone as sweet as her living alone in this city can be tough.

"Well, I guess I'll take my leave. This is for you." She placed the mug on my hands and a tiny pink paper. "Your daily quote." With that, she jogged out of my apartment.

Leila's into inspirational living. She wrote quotes in a small piece of paper and put them in a jar and everday she would pick one and read them. When she saw me, she'd thought I need it more than she does so the next day, she came to my apartment with a jar filled with rolled up papers. She expects me to read one each day.

I sighed and opened the paper. "Make peace with your past so it won't disturb your present." I threw the paper immidiately after I read it.

It already disturbed my present.

BANG!!!!!!

A hand smacked my office door against the wall. I jumped from my chair.

"Why weren't you here when Julian was in surgery?!!" Elijah came to my office. His eyebrows furrowed as he got closer to my desk. "What if something happens to him? I moved him here because I heard that you're a responsible doctor."

"Nothing happened to him. He's fine and recovering very well." I answered calmly. Many parents have come to me about this matter so I know how to handle this topic very well.

"Why are you so calm?!"

"Well, someone's got to be," I said, putting down my pen and looked at him. He stood, wearing his deep red suit, white buttoned shirt, and no tie.

"I don't need your smart mouth today." He snapped with his brown eyes glaring at me. "I'm serious, Lyna. If anything hap-"

"It won't." I sighed, "You need to trust me. I know what I'm doing."

"You better know!" His eyes blazed in anger.

"Elijah, you need to let me do my job. I treat all my patients equally. If I were to take this personally, you will be the last on my list. You're the one that needs me. I don't need you." My patience was running thin, yet I kept my straight face with no sense of anger. He was struck at my words but he covered it quickly. As he was about to say something, I cut him off.

"Look, Elijah. I have things to take care of besides the hospital work. I stay here as long as I can and I made sure that every one of my patients is in good hands before I leave." He looked at the pictures on my table and let me continue. "I keep my phones by me at all times even when I'm sleeping. If I were to wait for every single surgery that all my patients are having, I would never be able to go home."

"Is that your dog?" He asked with a softer voice and taking a seat by my desk.

"Yeah."

"And a cat too."

I nodded and was a bit confused at where he was going with this.

"He'll be okay?" His eyes not meeting mine but I can tell that he was really worried from the way his jaw is clenched. He cared about Julian very much.

"We'll have to see his progress. As far as the latest report I was checking till' you rammed my door..." He tightened his lips. "Julian's recovery is on the right track."

He breathed out heavily, "That's good."

"If you excuse me, I have to prepare everything else before I leave on the trip." I stood up and walked to the cabinet on the other side of my office.

"What trip?" He asked, following me.

"Julian will be taken care of by other doctors," I said, pulling out a stack of files that I need to read over before I leave.

"What trip?" He repeated more sternly this time.

"A trip."

"Care to elaborate?" He's annoyed. He placed his hand in his pocket, watching my every move.

"It's not your business."

"So you want to play it that way." He took out his phone and called someone.

"I need to know where Dr. Evlan is planning to go. Yes. Check everything. I need it now." He hung up.

I gaped at him. Impossible. You can never get away with anything with him. "Elijah, you need to back off."

"Why should I?" He cocked his head to one side and ran his index finger across his lower lip.

"Because you had your chance nine years ago and there is nothing left for you now."
