Saturday
As I clean the Potions classroom I contemplate what went wrong in my life. Maybe that's a little dramatic but still. Everyone tried to convince me that one detention wasn't bad after I returned from Filch's clutch yesterday. They all said that it was good McGonagall only punished me and Sirius for being out after curfew and that they didn't know about Hogsmeade. I guess they're right but still, sorting through Slughorn's bottles of Muffling Draught and scrubbing his cauldrons was not the way I wanted to spend my Saturday. Not to mention we have to do it all without magic and I was spending hours with Sirius.
He'd been very nonchalant about our detention. I had been ignoring him all day, equal parts angry and embarrassed about what happened in the broom closet.
Good thing we're almost done with this.
I let out a loud sigh from the stool I'm sitting on as I organize rose petals, sage and lavender into different jars.
"This isn't my fault you know." I hear Sirius' smooth voice from across the room where he's re-labeling a bottle of Invisibility Potion. He doesn't seem angry just bored because I'm ignoring him.
I don't response. Yes it is your fault.
"If you hadn't fallen over..."
"I only fell because you kept trying to get close to me." I can't help but engage in this silly argument.
"We were in a closet. It was small." He bluntly returns.
"Not that small. Anyway if you had just looked for Filch on your stupid map thing in the first place then we wouldn't have gotten caught."
"First-off the map isn't stupid. Second, mistakes are bound to happen, if you hadn't been so squeamish..." Sirius begins to become irritated.
"Maybe if you didn't flirt with everything that has a heartbeat-"
"Moving close to someone isn't flirting, Love." I open my mouth but Sirius continues, "And I can't help that I'm just such a roué."
I roll my eyes as Sirius stands up and drags a stool and sits down across the table. He looks at me with a cocked eyebrow.
"You're not as irresistible as you think, you know." I glare at him harshly.
"Oh really?" His dark eyes glare back.
"Mhmm." I hum, unbothered.
"I disagree with you Love, I think I'm extremely irresistible. In fact, I bet I could make any girl in this school fall in love with me." He pauses for a second, "Oh and that's including you sweetheart."
The cocky expression on his face makes me want to slap some sense into him.
"Not in a million years, Black." I mutter, shaking my head.
"Think you're too good for me eh?"
"I know I'm too good for you."
"Ouch, strong words Lovell. How many boyfriends have you had again?" His eyebrows furrow.
I scoff.
"You know what Sirius." I begin without thinking, "I bet I could make any boy in this school fall in love with me. Including you. Sweetheart."
Merlin. What am I saying? I should've just ignored him.
I turn back to sorting through the flowers in front of me.
The Potions classroom falls silent for a moment.
"Let's put it to a test then."
I look back up at him to see him still staring at me intently with his signature smirk.
