Seth's POV

Smoking a cigarette out here is always where I find the most peace. Staring out with a view of the ocean, thinking about what lies on that island always gives me a new sense of determination. I need to get over there before Marley goes through with their plan to send warriors there.

I hear some shouting in the street below me and casually look down. Looks like just another few Marleyan soldiers looking for excuses to arrest Eldians, nothing new.

The sound of the metallic door to the roof opening and shutting made me look over my shoulder at whoever disturbed my peace, "Kruger." I nod at him as he walks closer to me.

"(L/n)," He greets me, "Any luck with your experiments?"

"Some," I confirm, "But if General Calvi asks, I am having no luck at all. Any luck among the restorationists?"

"Not exactly," He shook his head, "a lot of them lack the passion and determination I am looking for. I need someone who isn't full of hot hair, someone who actually wants to make a difference instead of just being satisfied with the idea of it. Though I did come across someone who may be promising."

"Oh?" I hum.

"A couple Eldian children snuck out of the Liberio internment zone to watch some air ships. The youngest was killed, but there was a fire in the older brother's eyes that I have not seen before."

"Think he could be useful in the future?" I ask him as I stamp out my cigarette.

"Perhaps. I will keep my eye on him."

"We better head back, Kruger," I tell him as I walk back to the door, "You're going to be there for the batch of Eldians condemned to Paradis, right? I think I may have the right formula, but I need to test it against titans."

"What's your excuse to Calvi going to be? You're working on a formula he didn't ask you to make. You better be more careful, (l/n). Otherwise you're going to be found out, and that won't do, I need your help."

"The same could be said about you, Kruger. Don't worry about me, focus on your own mission."

I make my way off the roof and set out toward the marina, heading for the border of Paradis Island.

Your POV

"Hey!" I snap my fingers when I see my father spacing out, "Let's go, you wanted to talk about mom, right? So do it!"

"I guess spacing out like that is genetic." Levi comments.

"Shut up." I chuckle.

My father stares at me blankly making me sigh heavily, "I met your mother while I was working for Pearson."

"You worked for Laurie?" I mull over his confession, "Just when I thought you couldn't possibly be a bigger piece of shit."

"Captain, sorry to interrupt," I turn to look at who entered the dungeon, it was Connie, "We need your help."

Levi looks at Connie irritably, but follows him out the door anyway... Leaving me alone with my father... Awesome.

"What did you do for Laurie?"

I note my father cringes when I use Laurie's nickname, "Don't say his name like that!" He hisses.

"What? Don't like the fact your daughter was one of his pets? Don't pretend that you care now." I roll my eyes at him, not convinced he cares about anyone other than himself, "What did you do for LAURIE?!" I made sure to emphasize his nickname, just to piss him off more.
