Chapter 48
Shrimayi thought she would never use pretend play and her husband in a same sentence.
But there he was holding the tiniest cup in his massive hand attending the tea party his nephew and his playdate had generously extended an invitation to.
Rutuj had dragged him to the party as soon as the latter had returned from work.
His blazer was placed on the nearby armchair.
His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows. His tie was loose around the neck while he was drinking a cup of coffee.
A customization made by his nephew Rutuj and his neighbor's kid Harshala since he wasn't a big fan of tea in real life.
Devyani had arrived with her son, just a day ago, in lieu of thier parents' wedding anniversary. Her husband Kapil was going to join them later on due to his prior work commitments.
"Ranga Mama you forgot the biscuits."Rutuj reminded with a seraphic smile.
"Oh! How could I."He said dramatically and lifted some invisible sugary treats off of a tiny pink tray.
"Don't eat too much. We also have cake."His nephew said with a sense of pride.
Shreerang thought it would be invisible too just like rest of the menu. So when a real-life miniature cake appeared in front of him, his eyes turned as wide as saucers.
Its content looked very suspicious.
"It's delicious. Made from hundred percent organic mud in the garden."His wife informed, trying to hide the laughter bubbling inside her.
He shot her a glare which stopped her from saying anything.
Harshala reminded him of the cake still lying in from of him.
"Bhaiyya why aren't you eating the cake?"
"Because I am full."He lied.
"You could take a bite."Shrimayi suggested with a smug look.
"Baiko why don't you take a bite first?"He countered.
His reply set her mouth in a thin line.
"Yes. Mami you can also have a piece of this delicious cake."Rutuj offered, his eyes brimming with an undiluted affection for his aunt.
He liked her more than he liked his Ranga Mama and the latter wasn't jealous at all. Okay he was a wee bit jealous but he still loved their exchanges.
His wife and his nephew had some of the sweetest conversations he had ever witnessed.
She would become a kid herself and sometimes use that kiddy voice with Rutuj. They would enjoy cartoons together and say the dialogues even before the characters on screen if it was an old episode.
He would insist her to feed him breakfast, lunch and dinner. The latter did it happily. She was so patient with kids and he couldn't help but think how she would be as a mother.
She would be brilliant, he was sure of that.
Shrimayi's voice derailed his train of thoughts.
"Fine."She said and pretended to eat the cake.
"She is cheating."Shreerang snitched.
Rutuj's lips formed a cute pout.
"Mami no cheating."The boy said trying to sound angry but Shreerang knew he couldn't. Even thousands of chocolates wouldn't turn him against his favourite aunt.
