Chapter 39

After a drive of one and half hour, Shreerang and Shrimayi reached home.

The latter had passed out.

He tried to wake her up gently but it didn't work.

With heavy heart, he sprinkled some water from the bottle on her face as a last resort.

She woke up startled.

"It's raining."She screeched in his ears and was about to get out of the car.

But the seatbelt stopped her.

He rubbed his ear, still feeling an echo of her voice in his eardrum.

She was furiously trying to unbuckle herself.

"Whoa! Take it easy. "He chuckled and helped her getting out of her seat finally.

He was right by her side after locking his car. She was swaying to the sides and he ran to help her but her index finger wagged in 'no' gesture.

"Women don't need men. They are complete on their own."She said.

He raised his hand in surrender so she resumed her walk.

She entered from the gate and he followed her closely.

Soon sound of  light footsteps could be heard outside the Wada and it kept getting clearer and louder.

He hid Shrimayi behind one of the tree.

"Ranga you work so late nowdays?"Medha Kaku said standing just outside of the gate.

"I have a big project that needs my attention at work."He said pretending to be casual. He kept sneaking glances at his wife from corner of his eyes.

Shrimayi was looking at him and making funny faces.

He tried to maintain a straight face.

She accidently kicked a small pot, attracting attention towards her hidden spot.

"There's something behind that tree."Medha said getting suspicious.

"It's a cat."

His tone was loud for a purpose.

"Moo moo."His wife said and chuckled at her own stupidity.

"What sort of cat is this?"Medha mulled over loudly.

"It's a wild cat. It's like hybrid between cat and cow. A caw. Nope. A cot." He said coming up with a fictional name.

When Medha didn't look convinced, he used another tactic.

"Didn't you get that what's app forward? It explains everything."

Medha was apparently an ardent believer of 'whats app news'.

According to her, if something wasn't on whatsapp, it wasn't true.

Shreerang felt bad manipulating her but if she saw Shrimayi's current state, the gossip mills in Mathura housing society would run abuzz for weeks to come.

He wasn't going to let that happen to his wife.

Shrimayi was however bored standing in one place and kept shuffling her feet, resulting in knocking over another planter around the tree.

She mouthed a 'sorry' when he shot her a complaining look.

"Do you want me to get rid of that thing?"Medha asked.

Shreerang was astonished by her attitude.

"I read how to scare a tiger the other day. Just an intense look at him could make the animal shrink in fear."
