Chapter 16

"Did you patch up with Maya?"Vilas asked his wife.

"I am going to."The latter said.

"Stop torturing my daughter like that. She was telling me how much she misses you, the other day when we were on a video call."He said.

"I had to be strict. There are some things that she needed to realise. I think my plan is working because she is finally taking some time to get along with her new family."Sumitra said with a contended sigh.

"I don't know what happened between you two but you have to patch up with Maya. I don't want to see her like that."He told his wife.

"Fine. I will call her up tomorrow. She must be sleeping right now. It's late."She continued."Do you know what she sent me?"

"Nope."

She showed him a picture Shrimayi had sent her. It was the first dish she cooked with help of her mother-in-law.

Sumitra's heart swelled with pride looking at her daughter's success even if it was the most basic item to cook.

For her, efforts mattered more than the complexity of the dish.

"Our Maya made it?"Her husband asked in disbelief.

"Yes. She did."She answered matching his enthusiasm.

"Daughters - they grow up so soon. From hosting tea parties for her dolls to now cooking dinner for her husband and his family."He said trying to not choke up on the mix of emotions he felt.

"You are not crying again are you?"She asked narrowing her eyes at him.

"Nope."He said averting his eyes that were now glistened with tears."I should have married her off to a man who could stay with us."He said further as a second thought.

"Are you crazy? Do you know how lucky we are to get Shreerang as a son-in-law and don't even get me started about his loving family."

"I know. I know. Ranga is perfect for her."He said.

"You and your daughter. Both of you don't know how to address people formally? He is not your Chaddi- Buddy. He is your son-in-law. Call him Javai bapu atleast."She said combing her hair.

"Javai bapu is so outdated. Who calls his son-in-law by that term nowdays?"He made a face.

She shook her head.

"Mr.Paranjpe now i see from where your daughter got her attitude."

"I don't know where she got her attitude from. But i know where she got her breathtaking beauty from."He said romantically.

His wife blushed furiously at his words.

They were staring at each other fondly when the door bursted open.

"It's a curse to be a teenager in this house."Gauravi stomped towards the bed and plopped down.

"What happened Gotya?"Sumitra asked approching her.

"A lot of things. First of all i walked inside Taya's empty room for the fifth time in two weeks. I wanted to talk to someone so badly but then i realised she isn't there. She is in Pune now."She huffed crossing her arms.
