Chapter2- Meeting the Mother

We forgot Jaijeet back at home!

Oh no!

I have to find my parents!

By now the celebrations are at its peak and so are the crowds. How am I ever going to find anyone in this crowd?!

I try to look around and call their names a few times, but stop after people start giving me worried looks. Ugh, I hate marriages!

I run through the crowds trying to find atleast someone I recognize, but eventually trip on my lehenga and fall to the floor. Someone spills chutney in front of me, some of which splashes onto my face. I get up to see a girl in a navy salwar and another guy in a black kurta staring at me.

Who're these?

Girl: (as Avu wipes the chutney) Oops. (giggles)

Avu: Least apologize!

Boy: What's that?

Avu: (rolls her eyes) who invited you guys?

Girl: (snickering) people actually get invitations to these things?! (The girl and the guy hysterically laugh)

I'm about to argue with their immaturity when someone pulls me away.

Siddharth: Don't be bothered by them. They're idiots.

Avu: (staring at his malas) and you aren't?

Sid: excuse me!

Avu: You have a horrible sense of style. (looking at his malas)

Sid: It's not like I want to wear these ok! (a voice calls from behind)

Lady: SiDdHaRtH?! My desi beautiful beta where are you?! (Siddharth goes pale)

Sid: (oh no) Hey... mom.

Lady: Oh my precious baby, how can you leave me like that!

Sid: I did not leave, I was here only.

Lady: (noticing Avneet) You! You are spoiling my desi beta! (to Siddharth) I told you not to talk to all these modern girls! They are so spoiled! It's awful!

Sid: no no mom. THis is uh... a relative! She's a friend of Priya's! I just wanted to talk about Priya and my jodi!

Lady: (looking at Avu) Is that so?

I look at SIddharth who's eyes beg me to just lie about it and I almost want to sabotage everything and tell her the truth, but I need help to find my parents. Poor Jai must be walking here or something...

Avu: yea... totally. We were just talking about Priya and my marriage.

Lady: Your marriage?!

Sid: she means mine!

Avu: yea! His. I mean his!

Lady: (blooming into a smile and blessing him) Oh wah wah! Such an amazing boy! I love you so much! But still, vada karo that you will not leave me! VADA KARO!

Sid: Alright alright, I will not leave.

Lady: VADA!

Sid: haa haa, vada. (Avu bursts out laughing as the lady walks away after blessing Sid a few more times)

Sid: See why I have to wear all these malas! My mom... she's like some crazy bhakt! (Avu bursts out laughing again at that)

Avu: (fake wiping a tear) anyway... I only helped cuz I need your help.
