Chapter4- The Voices of those who passed away

After dinner (yes, I ate dinner too), Vai and Abhi said bye to us before driving off, leaving me with Siddharth and my parents.

After the dumb crying session, the couple leaves in a navy decorated car and people start preparing themselves for sleep. My mom didn't exactly need too much convincing to want to stay, so I gave Jai a quick call that we wouldn't be home. He was overjoyed.

Now another problem occurred. I had nowhere to sleep.

I tried asking mom but she just told me to find somewhere and sleep. I eventually found an empty room and tried to doze off, but just couldn't.

After 10 the lights were switched off. The place has an eerie glow, probably because this house is quite old. The floors are all made of cold marble and the windows are wooden with a bit of dust in the air.

After twisting and turning and trying not to imagine creepy stuff about the shadows, I give up.

I can't sleep.

I let the shadows get to me. I stare at the ceiling and let the shadows tell me stories.

One particularly catches my attention. A girl, she's a dancer, I think. The shadow dances, it's a classical dance, quite pretty. Then she takes something from her back and keeps dancing with that something in her hand. Twirling and twirling, then she stops. There's a knife in her hand. I wanna look away, but it's as if the shadow haunts me. The pretty dancing shadow stabs herself, again and again, and again. It drops to the floor, and I look away.

That was awful! I can feel the sweat all over my back and neck. My mouth is dry and my adrenaline is rushing through my veins. I'm petrified!

After a lot of self motivation, I convince myself to tiptoe off the bed and find a less creepy place to sleep. I walk through the marble floor till I reach the room which my parents were in. They're all fast asleep.

I check the adjoining room and there's someone sitting on the bed. in the darkness nothing more than the silhouette of the person is seen. For a second I thought a ghost was waving at me and freaked out then my eyes adjusted and it was just Siddharth.

I'm glad that least someone is awake!

I walk to the bed and sit down next to him, the darkness and shadows start to creep around us and I shiver.

Sid: (whispering) what's wrong?

Avu: (whispering) I don't like old marble houses with creepy shadows.

Sid: oh. Once there was a rumor that someone was killed and buried under these very floors.

(Avu kicks Sid)

Avu: shut up! I did not need to know that!

Sid: I was only kidding! (lets out a grin)

Siddharth lies down on the bed, but I keep sitting on the edge.

Avu: (whispering to Sid who may be half asleep) Can I sleep here? I don't wanna be alone.

Sid: help yourself.

I lie down and stare at the ceiling. I don't wanna sleep.

I try to close my eyes but the dancing shadow keeps coming back to me.

Everything everywhere goes very silent and I hear something. Very low, quiet, but miserable. Someone is sobbing.

I poke Siddharth.

Sid: Ugh, what do you want?

Avu: shh, listen.

Sid: I don't hear anything...
