Ch7- My Semester Successfully Sucks

Avneet POV

Never in my wildest nightmares can I even dream of a day worse than this one.

I'm now standing in front of a huge college complex which has gotten smaller after all the exploring I did last year... that's the thing about the second term-

In freshman year, everyone is excited about all the whole new college phase, but in the second term the enthusiasm is all just gone!

Now all you have is just another harass syllabus to mug up and some dumb ambitions you think that you can fulfill. And that's pretty much the only thing that's driving me right now- my longing to be part is the soccer team!

And that's the only reason I don't do on the street and sob miserably in my cursed state.

I look around at all the empty corridors- I must be pretty late as everyone must already be in their first class...

I drag myself through the entrance and set my suitcase down in front of the pale receptionist who looks like she just saw some zombie. I walk up to her, trying my best not to take out all my anger on the middle aged woman who's probably me here.

I plaster a fake merry smile.

Avu: hi. I'm a student here, could you give me my dorm details?

Lady: hello. Your name please?

Avu: Avneet Kaur.

(She checks and rechecks a lot on her computer)

Lady: found your name!

The amazing time of happiness that was portrayed on that last line made it sound as if she had just escaped a horrifying painful death.

Anyhow...

I got the details to my room which was on the second floor and I even got a name for my roommate, some girl called 'Jannat Zubair Rahmani'.

Whoever that is.

I drag myself to the elevator dreaming about bunking all the classes for the day but as I press the elevator button it doesn't seem to respond.

Oh no! No NO NO!

This can only mean one thing- it's a power cut.

I could sob. I could scream and cry and maybe even punch that receptionist lady a few times; just because I'm so done with this day!!

I look up at the long flight of stairs which seem to have gotten longer then I last remember it since freshman year. I don't have the energy right now to climb that thing!

Now I also feel awfully hungry!

I kick the wall once only to hear a little gasp from the receptionist lady who might have also run away now.

Just as I'm about to start giving up and, something catches my eye. A bright blue poster on the wall which says the exact words which seem to be something like a sign from the angels above-

SOCCER TEAM TRYOUTS!

All interested students please give your name to the present soccer captain Faisal Sheikh before coming Friday the 14th.

Tryouts will take place during the weekends.

May only the best succeed

This poster looks like it's simply calling out to just me! How could it be that it just happens to catch my eye outa all the other posters! (there were no other posters)
