The next afternoon as Victor and Mara began to leave Dallas and head back to Houston. They stopped to get gas before getting on the road. As Victor pulled out of the gas station a speeding truck came barreling through the intersection and t-boned them.
The impact made Victor's car flip on its side. First responders and officers rushed to the seen that is when they realized it was a teenager who was distracted by his girlfriend giving what he called "road head." He didn't realize he ran a red light till it was to late.
Victor was fine he just had some whiplash and some bruising. Once he was cleared he was led to Mara's room.
"Hi you must be dad" A blonde woman said
"Yes I am. Is she okay?" Victor said
"Well I'm Dr Winnie Henderson-Barnes. And yes she has a concussion a broken arm and some bruising but she's going to make a full recovery." Winnie said
"Thank you doctor." He said
"You can just call me Dr Henderson. I'm working on getting the Barnes off my name." She said
Victor smiled at her. "Dr Henderson." He said
She smiled at him. "Have me paged once she is up." She said and walked out.
A few days later Mara started to come to when she did there was no one in the room. But as she looked through the window. She saw her dad at the nurse's station with Winnie. They were both holding coffee cups laughing and flirting. When he peaked in Mara's direction he saw that she was awake.
They both came in. Winnie checked her vision and vitals when she left the room. Victor hugged Mara.
"Daddy you should go for it." She whispered
"Go for what?" He whispered
"Her..I seen you two." She said
"Baby.." he said
"It's been three years since mama died daddy. She wouldn't want you to be alone and you know that." She said
He smiled at her. "Thanks.." he said as he tucked some of her hair behind her ear.
Val came running in. "We went to get food. I'm so happy you are awake." Val said as she hugged her.
"To much." Mara whispered
"Sorry." Val said as she loosened her grip.
Two days later they were finally back in Houston. But Victor had a new number in his phone and a smile on his face. Two weeks later he and Mara made a trip back to Dallas. While she stayed at Val's house Victor took Winnie on their first date.
