I walked home from the train station because I didn’t feel like waiting for the erratic New York bus system. It was a 13-block walk home in the icy cold winter but I walked anyway. I hugged Ross’s jacket tighter around me to block myself from the daggers of ice-cold wind. I dragged my feet along the street cement as I pulled myself closer and closer to my house. Every second of my slow walking, I was thinking of him. I couldn’t stop. Everything I saw around me reminded of him. Was this normal?
My phone vibrated and I pulled it out quickly, hoping it was who I hoped it was. Sure enough, it was. The phone screen read: 1 new message from UNKNOWN.
I opened the message and read: hey r u home yet? btw its ross :)
I smiled and hit reply.
no not yet lol walking home :)
I couldn’t even put away my phone when it vibrated again. What a guy…
walking? :o didnt u take train?
I typed: yea but ny buses r not the best haha XD
I didn’t bother putting away my phone and sure enough, it vibrated again.
aww haha txt me when u get home <3
I probably looked like a retard walking alone in a New York street, smiling to myself, but heck. It’s New York, we’re filled with psychos.
When I finally reached my house, I walked up the stoop and towards the front door. My finger hovered over the doorbell, unsure of whether or not I wanted to go in. Finally, I forced it onto the button and pressed hard. A few seconds passed. A curtain in the front window fluttered and my brother’s face popped out from behind it. I stuck my tongue out at him and he giggled. He was just a little boy. He ran to the front door and I heard the locks clicking. The front door quietly opened and I stepped in.
“Mommy and Daddy wanna talk to you, now.” He did his best to put on a solemn face. “But I don’t want you to get in trouble, Amanda.”
I did my best to smile at him and I squished his cheeks. “I’ll be allright.” He ran off into the house and left me standing there, slowly taking off my shoes to buy myself some time. I opened the second door and stepped into the house.
Two pairs of Asian eyes glared at me and looked away. My parents, everybody. They sat at the dining table, trying to hide the fuming anger inside them. They weren’t really good at this. I looked them over and went upstairs. Guess it’s not lecture time yet.
I don’t usually hide in my room. My computer and work space is all downstairs where my parents can constantly monitor me. So that’s why there’s just about nothing to do in my room but stare at the R5 posters covering up the cracked paint on the walls. I sighed and pulled out my phone. Technically, I wasn’t allowed to text. Technically, I don’t care. I sent a text to Ross saying: got home, parents ignoring me now :/
I waited for a response and pulled out one of my old magazines. Ross was on the bottom of the cover and I smiled. He’s getting famous. He’s growing up.
The vibrations from my phone told me Ross sent a reply. I read the message: :’( did they talk to u at all?
nope. not at all.
:’( then u try talking to them
i can’t do that
y not?
i can’t rlly explain, kinda like i don’t wanna look pathetic i guess
but theyre ur parents!
well u had awesome parents, u nvr had to go through this crap!
but i kno they still love u no matter what
lol well they’re not showing it so ur advice isn’t exactly helpful ross
well at least im trying
tryings not gonna give me loving parents
well that’s not my fault!
im not saying its ur fault!
well ur acting like it is.
im not!
I waited. And waited. Minutes went by. He still hadn’t replied. Did we just have a fight? Oh man, why does everything have to fall apart just when things were getting better?
