"Aren't you scared?" You asked Gaius while maintaining distance with yet another deceased victim. "There is nothing to be afraid of I'm the court physician, Y/n. This is part of my job. Most of the time there's nothing really to be scared of." You watched intently as he pulled the cloth away from the corpses face to reveal the man being white skinned and white eyed. Taken aback you shuddered but crouched closer, nearer to Gaius. "I thought this body has only been dead for an hour or so it shouldn't be so..." You tried to find the right word. "lifeless, yes I know. At the rate that people are catching this disease, this could doom Camelot if we don't find a cure quickly." He finished examining the body and turned to you. "Find Merlin, get him relieved of his duties for the day. We will need all the help we can get"

The sound of bickering led you to the Prince's sleeping quarters. You coughed to attract their attention to which they both stop arguing and look at you. "Would it be okay for Merlin to be relieved of his duties for the day, this new disease is a lot and we need him" Both Merlin and you were surprised that Arthur didn't need anymore convincing as he agrees and ushers the both of you out. "That was strange, I thought I would have to put up more of a fight" Merlin responds with a small hum and you both make your way to Gaius.

What do we know about it? Merlin asks you and Gaius. "We know that it kills people very quickly under a day, it speeds up the process of dying and post-mortem and it's random, there are no links between victims." You listed off every fact you knew. You all turned to the door as you hear it creak open and you see Gwen helping a woman walk into the Chambers. "Only a few more steps and we get can get you sat down" She murmurs to the woman. The woman sits down immediately Merlin and Gaius start to examine her. Gwen pulls you aside to talk about the patient which led to you and her walking to where the woman was found.

----Gwens House w/reader----

"Water?" Gwen offers to which you accept and sit down with Gwen at her table and discuss the disease. "So she is a friend of yours" Gwen nods "Did you spend time with her before, was there any symptoms she experienced?" You asked while taking a sip of water, hoping for more information on what this disease is "She said she wasn't feeling well enough to head to the market today so I walked her home. There wasn't anything distinctive she just had a cough, she was slightly pale oh and was extremely cold." You take a another sip of water, "Is there anything else you know did she come into contact with the first victim?" Gwen shakes her head "I don't think she had contact with him but I don't know for definite" You nod, finish your water and head to Gaius to tell him the new information.

------At Gaius's w/o reader------

Both Gaius and Merlin look to the dead body in their chamber which had been an alive woman a few minutes prior. "I've never seen anything like this before." Gaius says to Merlin. "Do you think it could be some kind of plague?"
"No. I fear that something like this could never come from nature. But who has this kind of power?"Merlin studies Gaius's face and realises what he is thinking "You think it's caused by magic?" He asks carefully. "That is what I have concluded, I think it may be best to go to the King with this information" To that Merlin's eyes widen "You can't, what if they find out that I am a sorcerer"
"Merlin you mustn't worry they won't find that out, we need every resource we can get. We have to tell the king" Gaius leaves to go to the councils chambers.

Some time passes and Merlin tries to figure out if Gaius is right. He picks up a vial containing some blood of the woman and studies it when he is interrupted by you walking in. "Hey where is Gaius? I have some information on the disease" You give a small cough and sit next to Merlin. You proceed to tell Merlin every piece of information you have on the disease and he tells you what he has learned. Now knowing more about it you both attempt to find trace of knowledge about the disease in Gaius's books. During this time you excuse yourself to get a jacket from your shared room and shiver. "You alright?" Merlin asks looking up from his book. "Yeah just a bit cold, let's ke-" You interrupt yourself by going into a small coughing fit. You share brief eye contact with him and look away. "Merlin you are my brother, I know what you are thinking. It isn't that, it's probably just because we are talking about it that I have some symptoms. Yknow when that happens." You go back to studying and urge for him to do the same.
