Chapter Two

Based on S1EP1

we go inside Camelot and we see a crowd gathered, as Merlin and I go to investigate we hear king Uther speak up. "Let this serve as a lesson to all. This man, Thomas James Collins, is adjudged guilty of conspiring to use enchantments and magic. And pursuant to the laws of Camelot, I, Uther Pendragon, have decreed that such practices are banned on penalty of death. I pride myself as a fair and just king, but for the crime of sorcery, there is but one sentence I can pass." 

I grab onto my brother's hand as Uther signs to the executioner to kill Thomas. A brief silence followed before Uther continued his speech. 

"When I came to this land, this kingdom was mired in chaos, but with the people's help magic was driven from the realm. So I declare a festival to celebrate twenty years since the Great Dragon was captured and Camelot freed from the evil of sorcery. Let the celebrations begin." Panicked I look towards merlin who looks straight ahead as if he is staring at a trainwreck he can't take his eyes away from. Suddenly we hear a cry and turn around to see a woman in distress i look in concern towards her and merlin mirrors my actions.

"There is only one evil in this land"She screeches  "and it is not magic! It is you! With your hatred and your ignorance! You took my son! And I promise you, before these celebrations are over, you will share my tears. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a son for a son."

"Seize her!" Uther orders but the guards are too late the woman is gone as people start to disperse from the execution site.

Merlin and i walk away to find Gaius, he was the man who was supposed to look after us.

"Where would I find Gaius, the court physician?" my brother asks seemingly forgotten about the past event or is trying to. The guard points behind him so we go in that direction, travelling forwards we see a sign saying, the court physician.  we wander inside "Hello?"

"Hello? Gaius?"

Gaius trips over backwards from the bookshelf stairs and the railing breaks. Merlin's eyes glow and he slows time while also using magic to move a bed under Gaius before he hits the floor.

"What did you just do?" Gaius asks merlin, I bounce on my feet as I watch their interaction. Merlin not knowing what to say just mumbles under his breath

"Tell me!" Gaius exclaims and I start to pay attention just in case

"I- I- I have no idea what happened." I share a glance with my brother.

"If anyone had seen that..." Gaius starts

"Er, no! That- that was, that was nothing to do with me. That- that was..." Merlin tries to make an excuse but can't think of anything. I look away. Although I am not against magic in any way, I did tend to enjoy it, it just became a slight bore talking about it well more specifically Merlin's magic since that consisted of most of our conversations growing up.

"I know what it was! I just want to know where you learned how to do it!"

 "Nowhere"

"So how is it you know magic?"

"I don't."

"Where did you study?... Answer me!" I slightly wince at the raise in his voice.

 "I've never studied magic or, or been taught. I was born like this!"

"That's impossible! Who are you?"

I chime in "Oh, uhh" and I take off my backpack and pull a letter out and hand it to Gaius

"I don't have my glasses."

"oh, well I am y/n and this is my brother merlin"

"Hunith's kids?"
