"Lori! Carl! Gillian!" I called out as I marched through the front door. The first person that came out was Gillian. I immediately started feeling guilty. I don't know how I'm going to tell her, her brother is dead. As I was thinking through everything I felt a lump grow in my throat.

"Shane?" Lori asked as she came out from the kitchen. Oh my god, Carl. How am I gonna tell him that his daddy's dead? I look between the two women and rubbed the back of my head.

"We gotta go. Things are getting worse. The roads are starting to fill up. We won't make it out if we don't leave soon." I told them looking down at the ground.

"Where is he?" Gillian asked coming up to me so she could catch my eyes.

"I'm sorry." My voice broke as the words fell out of my mouth. Gillian looked at me with a confused face.

"What- what do you mean?" She asked, her own voice breaking as her breathing started to pick up and her eyes started to water. I stayed quiet as I looked back down to the floor "Shane. What do you mean?" She asked as she started to cry.

"He-he's gone," I told her as she let out a sob and crumbled to the ground. She let out a scream as she laid her head down on the floor wrapping her arms over her head.

I zipped up my bag and walked over to my toy chest and got out my favorite teddy bear that my dad had gotten me when I heard a loud sob and a crash on the floor. I quickly ran downstairs and saw Gillian on the floor with her arms covering her head as she sobbed. I ran over to her side and put my arms over her shoulders. "Hey, hey, what's going on? are you ok?" She didn't answer she just kept sobbing. "Mom?" I asked turning to look at her. She herself was quietly sobbing. "Shane?" I asked turning to him, he looked down to the floor and over to my mom.

"Sweetie, come here. We need to talk." She said sniffling and wiping her tears off her face.

"But, I can't leave Gill," I told her staying in my place, still holding onto my aunt's shaking figure.

"Listen, bud, I'll take over for you. Make sure she's alright." Shane said coming over to Gill's side placing his arms over her shoulders, and pulling her into his chest. I nodded hesitantly and got up to go over to my mother who had her hand held out. I walked over and grabbed her hand, she pulled me into the dining room. She kneeled down in front of me.
