"Hey, helicopter boy, why don't you come on out?" I heard a man call out to me. I rubbed my face and opened the door to the cube van, stepping out with caution. As I stepped out of the van a saw a woman with long dark hair kneeling down in front of a small boy. Lori? The boy looked over at me. Carl. The woman looked over at me, her eyes went wide as carl ran to me with his arms open.

"Dad!" carl yelled as I opened my arms my legs collapsed and I fell to my knees.

"Carl." I sobbed as I held him, leaning over to put one of my hands down on the ground so I could stand up. Lori came running up to me and hugged me tightly. I kissed her and looked over to the man that was standing in front of Glenn's dodge challenger. It was Shane. He had a surprised and guilty look all over his face. I wasn't sure why he looked guilty, I'd have to talk to him about that later. "Gillian?" I asked as I looked back at Lori. she looked guilty too. "I-is she dead?" I asked as my voice broke and I started to cry once again.

"We don't know. We lost her on the way to Atlanta," She told me with her head hanging low. I let out a quiet sob and placed my forehead on hers.

"Disoriented. I guess that comes closest. disoriented." I told everyone as we were gathered around the campfire. Lori was at my side, I had my arm hung over her shoulder as she cuddled into my side. and Carl laying in my lap. "Fear, confusion-- all those things but... disoriented comes the closest," I told them.

"Words can be meager things." The man named was Dale paused as he told me. "Sometimes they fall short."'

"I felt like I'd been ripped out of my life, and put somewhere else. For a while, I felt like I was trapped in some coma dream, something I might not wake up from ever," I told them.

"Mom said you died." Carl informed me looking up at me from my lap.

"She had every reason to believe that. Don't you ever doubt it." I told him looking down at him. out of the corner of my eye, I could see Lori giving Shane a look before she turned back to the fire.

"When things started to get really bad, they told me at the hospital that they were gonna medevac you and the other patients to Atlanta, and it never happened." she told me as she petted Carl's head.

"Well, I'm not surprised after Atlanta fell." I told her, she gave me a brief "yeah". "and from the looks of it that hospital got overrun."

"Yeah, looks don't deceive. I barely got them out. You know?" Shane told me, looking over at me.

"I can't tell you how grateful I am to you, Shane," I told him sincerely as I looked over to him. "I can't begin to express it."

"There go those words falling short again. Paltry things." Dale said, shaking his head. Shane got up and walked over to me, he pulled my arm a bit signaling me to get up and to follow him.
