"Alright Lyra!" George said drawing a circle with chalk on the wooden floor of the kitchen. "Let's give it another go."
Lyra Stood anxiously with Fred in the hallway outside of the bathroom. She looked to him worriedly. "Maybe just one more time together-"
"Stone you've apparated a hundred times with George and I, and you've never once been splinched."
"Yes but I've always had your help."
"No, you haven't." Fred countered crossing his arms. "George and I stopped helping you ages ago. He just wouldn't let me tell you because he was afraid you'd freak."
"You're just saying that." She shot back also crossing her arms.
"Stone, do you know why I'm the one standing here with you and George is in the other room?"
Lyra smirked "Because your meaner than he is?"
"No, because he spoils you rotten."
A familiar redhead popped around the hall corner. "Everything okay?" George asked with a smile that melted Lyra's heart.
"Yes. She's ready. Go stand by the circle." Fred said shewing him away before turning back to Lyra.
She deflated in defeat. "we really can't do it together one more time?"
"No, and I'm not letting you move until you at least try. What's the point of being a know it all if you're chicken?"
She blushed, "I'm not chicken-"
"Good! Let's see it then. I haven't got all night."
"Fine." Lyra closed her eyes and pictured the kitchen. The warm yellow glow of the light. The feeling of the creaking wood under her feet. The tall table and messy countertops. She pictured herself there instead of the hall. Pictured herself being compressed and then released. She needed to be in the kitchen. Needed to be next to George.
A familiar feeling of twisting in on ones-self, the overwhelming horrid constricting black, and then just as quickly the release of pressure, and the feeling of rough wood under her feet once more.
"Yes!" George shouted in victory catching Lyra as her legs gave way. Her eyes fluttered open squinting from the sudden brightness of the well-lit room.
"I did it?"
George grinned at her, "Yup. All by yourself."
"Told you that you would," Fred said from the doorway, in a scolding tone. But he couldn't help but grin too. "Shall we go and celebrate now?"
Lyra smiled to herself wrapping her arms around Georges's neck and nuzzling her nose against his. "let's!"
"Oh no!" George said, "no way am I getting stuck babysitting you two drunk again."
Fred shared a look at Lyra raising an eyebrow.
She went limp in George's arms, jerking his head down even more close to hers and almost knocking them over. "but George it's my first time apparating on my own. Don't you want to celebrate?"
"Oi!" George said, straightening himself and gently forcing Lyra to stand on her own. "don't give me the puppy dog eyes."
"Man Georgie, I can't believe you don't want to celebrate your own girlfriend's achievements," Fred said in his best such a shame voice.
"You know I don't like how cozy you two have gotten since we moved in together." He said glaring at Fred. "I'm not a fan of this let's gang up on George."
"Consider it my revenge for all the PDA."
George was about to retort when a knock at the door interrupted him. "Who's that?" He asked, and Lyra instinctually moved closer to him.
