I stood by the entrance of the Everhart Mansion letting the soft air soothe me from the inside out, it was colder here than I thought it would be so pulling my thin overshirt closer, I climbed down the front steps. Cool and crisp smell of morning filled my lungs as I started to walk along the small footpath at the edge of the mansion.
The weather was beautiful today, the sun streaming through the tips of the tall trees, the wilderness of nature around and the smell of the fresh air had me almost close my eyes and relish the nature until the easiness dissipated and once again the paranoid sensation filled my mind. And the sound of the birds overhead which felt like a lullaby only seconds ago now appeared some kind of conspiracy.
I stopped walking to take a deep breath, then exhaled slowly telling myself to stop my overactive imagination and act like an adult. I spun and looked behind at the massive structure of the primeval house once again, in awe of it. My eyes grew big as I took in not only the four-storey hiding behind the shade of the big cedars but also the deer ferns and clusters of vine maples decorated the landscape around it. There was no doubt the place looked objectively beautiful to any human eyes, yet I couldn't help getting an isolated feel looking around and it made me unnerved for some reason.
A shiver ran through me at the prospect and I averted my eyes from the house, when I faced forward once more, a startled gasp left my mouth seeing Mr. Everhart standing right before me with a smile adorning his lips.
"Beautiful, isn't it?", he murmured.
Getting over the initial shock, I nodded my head thinking he must've been talking about the manor, then I followed his line of sight.
The second-floor windows.
There was nothing in there but I could've sworn I saw a flash of something golden, the same one I witnessed quite a few times in the past.
Was he talking about the golden light? I thought.
"You coming? We ain't got all day.", Mr. Everhart muttered moving past me and pulling me from my thoughts. My eyes followed him as he started to walk across the pebbly ground, and with one last glanced over my shoulder at the estate, I also trot behind him, doing my best to keep up.

Everything was fairly quiet at this hour as we walked in silence side by side, just strolling along. I expected him to talk about the reason he brought me here or about his powers or at least a little bit about himself, but he stayed quiet lost in his thoughts. And the farther we walked from the manor, the more my curiosity of him intensified.
