"Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime and falling in at night. I miss you like hell."

"Put a little more oomph into that attack and you will able to block it." Bobby reminded the Nephilim as they both acted out half a dozen choreographed attacks.

The boy tried to execute the blows but like the last two hours, the hunter managed to hit him every damn time.

"Pay attention! It won't work if you miscalculate the distance, try to block my hand with enough force and keep your eyes on the assailant. In this case--me", Bobby barked.

Turning his palm around and adjusting his elbow, Jack shifted all his attention toward the old man and did what he advised. They went round after round practicing wrist blocks and parries, bare fists wrapped in a few layers of tape and bodies glistening with sweat.

"C'mon, Jack, you can do it", Bobby encouraged between each strike.

The Nephilim was trying, he followed every instruction from the hunter but somehow, every time he was the one who ended up absorbing all the blows from his assailant. The pair had been practicing these moves for two weeks now, yet there was no progress from his side. It killed him every time he failed to succeed, he failed to learn these simple moves; failed to see the true intention behind his father's eyes; failed to keep her safe.

And with the mere mention of that girl, his heart stopped— then started to beat loudly, urging the familiar inferno-like emotions to course through his veins proudly.

How many days had it been? Four months? Nearly five?

But the memories were still crystal clear, he could remember each detail. The way her eyes widened, the way horror morphed into her face, the way her hand reached out to him in panic– maybe to save him or it was her who needed to be saved. Jack wasn't sure anymore and certainly, he couldn't be so sure now. Because the girl wasn't here to tell the tale.

She wasn't anywhere near him for a long time.

The thought alone made all his energy eluded him. And it gave Bobby a chance to rear back with a stronger blow, causing the Nephilim to crumple to the ground from the force.

"Jack!", Bobby yelled. Kneeling next to the boy, the hunter asked in concern, "Are you okay?"

The pain was too much for Jack to respond so he only nodded his head. Leaning onto the left side of his body, the boy cradled his forehead in his palm, he could already feel a lump forming below his hairline.

"I'm sorry, Jack, should've been more careful. But I told you to stay focus, boy. What was going inside that head of yours?", Bobby scolded the next second he saw him trying to sit up.
