"Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free."

"Madam, you can't take her. If Mr. Everhar—"

"Fayre's a Everhart herself and the only heir to your master. I believe, she has the right to go anywhere she wants in this house", my grandmother argued as I stood next to her in silence, unsure if I should keep my mouth shut or say something, but I decided to keep my tongue knotted because as frivolous as I wanted to be, making the matter worse was the last thing I planned tonight.

The soft distant caws of evening birds pulled my attention toward the open windows of my room, finally, I got to admire the view without a thick shield of clear glass covering all of it. Earlier, she came and made a huge fuss about the charmed windows so the Guards were forced to reverse the spell resulting my room to be a less of a prison chamber.

I watched as she took a deep breath but looked them in the eye, gaze more direct than ever. "Aillard ain't gonna be happy with you if he heard we're having this conversation."

The guard who was arguing with her now looked hesitant, his previous confidence was replaced by pure fear. The seconds ticked by, and I began to think that the guard really wasn't going to let us leave but he surprised me instead saying, "We are sorry mam, please forgive us. It was all for her own safety." He then tilted his head, indicating we should go on.

As we walked, I peered around the house, ignoring the following guards behind us. Everything was just as beautiful as I remembered— the floors were a dark brown color, reflecting the light of the grand chandeliers and sconces that bathed the rooms in their warmth. Mrs. Everhart

turned and walked past the staircase, leading me deeper into the house, and even though I was fortunate enough to get a glimpse months back, the never-ending grandeur didn't fail to surprise me once again.

She drew me into a dining room with equal fancy surroundings, but lights here were subdued causing a long dim expanse filled with shadows as many as they came.

She moved abruptly to go sit down at the table which could serve at least two dozen people. I sank down into the nearest chair not knowing what her next move was as two of the guards stood far in the corner watching our every move.

"You haven't eaten yet, have you?"

I shook my head.

"I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of ordering for us." With a wave of her hand, the table was set up with fancy platters and silver plate toppers. One of the workers lifted it off and steam wafted up.

With a nervous smile, I reached for my fork only to find there were several of them. I felt my cheeks heat up as I grabbed the one nearest the plate and digging into warm juicy meat.
