He had seen many beautiful women both on screen and off screen. But today when he saw Kim enter in a cream coloured Saree with a golden border he couldn't get his eyes off her. She was simply dressed with only earrings and a hand full of bangles. Her excitement was contagious.
Each of her aunt's and uncle's had dressed up for the wedding. And being the gracious hosts that they were they never let him out of sight. Always asking him if he wanted anything or even if he liked the celebration. He may be an American citizen but he had roots in India and he knew about most of the traditions happening. Not to offend them though he smiled at whatever they said.
What he did not understand though is how Kim managed to avoid him at all costs. He couldn't even have fifteen seconds alone with her, she was either with her cousins or relatives doing some ritual or the other.
He caught a glimpse of Kim entering a room, thinking that he may have a word with her he followed her into it and stopped short when he realized that it was full of women of all ages. He was about to leave when her grandmother called out to him and said " why don't you sit and see this ritual. This ritual has only the unwed girls. They sit in a line and each of them is gifted with jewelry that they may use for their wedding but the girls of the house are given more, see Kim is at the start because amongst all of them she is the eldest and will be married first."
Curiosity getting the better of him he asked "so will she be given a choice in this marriage? or have you already chosen someone for her?".
Her grandmother smiled and shook her head and said " you youngsters have a very skewed idea of how arranged marriage works. Yes we chose the boy for her but if and only if she gets along with him and has some attraction to him would we get her married. Else it's better she doesn't marry than get married and regret it later. After all an arranged marriage may last longer than a love marriage."
He was about to reply when the ritual started. Kim was the first to get adorned with jewelry. Where she only had a few pieces of jewelry before now she had gold on almost every part of her body. She could easily be used for being the brand ambassador of any jewelry store.
The minute the ritual was over Kim again disappeared. To mask his annoyance at being dissed again he excused himself and made his way to the garden. He had just seated himself next to Ryan, Eve and Jonah and were talking about how they thought the rituals seemed to be when he heard an excited squeal and saw Kim run down the impressive stairs towards a figure fast approaching from the opposite direction. She tackled that person to the ground and was showering kisses on her when the person spoke for the first time.
"Kimmy would you get off! I have a meeting I need to attend to later!! I can't go with grass stains on my a$$! Okay stop I mean it . I'll tell Amma about this!"
The threat seemed to work because just as soon as she had jumped on the woman she got off and with a cheeky glint in her eye said " ok Miss big shot lawyer! But you know you can't walk around in your penguin suit for long. Amma will see you soon enough and then you too will turn into an Indian homely looking girl so now you have like ten seconds to decide." She started her countdown and was making her way up the stairs when she heard her name being called.
With a huff the other girl held her elbow and started towards the stairs with a string of words no well breed woman was supposed to know!
Unable to control her giggling, Kim let her childhood bestie lead to her to her allotted room. Helping her get ready she was about to leave when Shivani, her childhood friend asked, "so who was that foreigner who had been looking at you like you were the only girl in the world? He sort of looks familiar. I just can't put my finger on it though." She said with a thoughtful pout on her face. Looking at her perplexed look Kim reminded her of his very famous superhero action franchise.
