Scene V

Jack (on TV): Laura. Please. We're born alone, we die alone. We don't wanna live our life alone.

Laura (on TV): Jack. Our love can't save us now! It's too late.

Jack (on TV): Love is everything, and we've got it. We've got it right in our hands.

Spike: Emma? Mind taking out the garbage? Honey, what's wrong?

Emma: Nothing.

Spike: Em, those shows are designed to upset people.

Emma: It's just that we're so small and the universe is so massive. We're just little specks. Floating... alone.

Spike: Uh-oh. Solar system anxiety? I remember it well. Big huge universe, tiny little me, what's the point. You can't beat it. But you can shop. I did well this week. Let's go spend my tips. It's called retail therapy.

Scene VI

Emma: I like retail therapy. And I love my new sweater. It'll go with everything. My little blue skirt, my blue chinos, my jeans...

Man: Oooh. I'd like a lick of that.

Spike: Excuse me?

Man: I'd like a lick of your cone. Sue me.

Spike: I probably could because I don't think that's what you meant.

Emma: Mum...

Spike: Guess what? You don't talk to women like that. Especially young women.

Man: It's a joke. I was just kidding.

Spike: My daughter and I came here to shop. Not to be harassed by some pig, masquerading as a comedian. When you talk to women like that, it's scary. It makes us feel bad. Don't do it again.

Emma: Mum, can we go now? I am mildly dying.

Spike: See? This is the problem. You're embarrassed because of what he said. It's so wrong! Seriously, Emma. Don't ever let some guy make you feel bad just for being female. Okay? Promise.

Scene VII

Jimmy: See you tomorrow.

Ashley: Toby, you can't just ask Jimmy for dinner every single night. Okay?

Toby: He's your boyfriend.

Ashley: Yeah, and he's driving me crazy!

Terri: He's totally sweet.

Ashley: He's totally here all the time. It's suffocating. You know what? At this point, I'm just about ready to break up with him.

Scene VIII

Emma: See? It goes with everything!

J.T.: Wow. Sexy shirt.

Manny: Em, don't get mad...

Emma: Please. It's not like J.T. is exactly Mr. Fashion Forward.

J.T.: Mr. Fashion who?

Toby: J.T., I'll see you in homeroom.

Students: Happy birthday, Jimmy!

Jimmy: Hey, Tobes. Did you master that move I taught you?

Toby: Uh, almost. Happy birthday.

Jimmy: Thanks. We can work on it later.

Toby: Uh, right. Later. You know, I've been thinking, about what you said last night. You know, about when you're trying to master a really complicated move? Leave it alone for a while, come back to it later?

Jimmy: Yeah...

Toby: You know, give it a rest. Don't suffocate it. Kinda like... with girls.

Jimmy: Tobes. What are you saying?

Toby: Nothing. Nothing. It's just... interestingly similar. That's all. No biggie.

Jimmy: What did Ashley say? Come on. You're my friend. What? Is she feeling suffocated? Like we're together too much? She doesn't want to break up, does she?

Scene IX

J.T.: You shouldn't have said anything.

Manny: J.T., Jimmy's like Toby's older brother. He had to tell him.

Emma: Yeah, but Ashley is his older sister. Sort of. Maybe she was just having a bad day.

Toby: More like a bad decade. Before this decade gets any worse, c'mon.

Sean: Hey, Emma.

Emma: Sean! What's up?

Sean: Nothing. Listen, I came to apologize about that whole astrology thing.

Emma: No, it's my fault. I shouldn't have acted like that. Maybe you could do my horoscope on the computer? It could be kinda fun, and we have time before class.

Sean: Yeah, that'd be great.

Manny: (gasps) Did you sit in something?

Emma: What? No-

Sean: You coming?

Emma: Oh, no. What do I do?!

Manny: I don't know. This hasn't happened to me yet.

Emma: Um... no. I don't think we have time for the horoscopes. So, you should go. To class. Now.

Manny: Okay. Don't panic. Everything's gonna be fine. We'll figure out something.

Ashley: I can't break up with him tonight.

Terri: Why not?

Ashley: It's his birthday. Jimmy, hey. We were just-

Jimmy: Yeah. You don't have to come tonight.

Ashley: What? Jimmy, it's your birthday. Of course I'm coming.

Jimmy: I'm just saying.
