Reich and Soviet (oh boy!)

Now we're gonna talk about the most controversial characters in the fandom. Actually Third Reich seems to be the only controversial one. Soviet doesn't hold the same "evil character" status. Why? I don't know. He almost certainly should be as spited as Reich!

And that's exactly what I'm here to discuss.

Reich is often portrayed the bad guy. That means Soviet has to be the good guy, right? He won the war so that makes him a force of good, right? Haha..... nein. Ww2 was not a Hollywood movie. There wasn't a good side and an evil side. Both sides had their faults, some more than others, but they were faults nonetheless. I don't really want to get into what exactly those "faults" were— *cough cough* genocide and war crimes *cough cough.*

So then tell me, why is it acceptable to have Soviet Union as your pfp? He doesn't get as much stigma as Reich because he's the winner and the winner writes the history books. Having the hot commie dude as your picture just reflects ignorance, honey :) 

And by the way those communism memes are getting old 

You have to understand that history is written by the victors. Do your research. Understand that the Soviet Union's government was equally horrible as the Third Reich's.

And please for all that's good and beautiful, I don't want to see the "who was worse" debate. Can't we just understand that both GOVERNMENTS (not regular people) were wrong and leave it at that?

Annoying Third Reich Tropes

- He is given multiple mental illnesses

- He commits suicide. This is remotely the ONLY reference to history. But I hate it because this shows that people see him as Hitler.

- He was abused by his father. Again, reference to Hitler. 

- He likes art (more Hitler smh.... originality, anyone?)

- He is an "insane uwu edgy gun boi owo"

- He has shark-like teeth. I used to like this one but now that I know that it's exclusive to him, I hate it.

- He's always the only one torturing Poland in those insensitive fanfics! Hello? Guess what?! The Soviet Union was also horrible and ruthless to the Polish.

- He's portrayed as sexy. I shouldn't have to explain why this in particular is wrong but NO other country should be sexualized.

- He always acts like his life goal was to start WWII.

I'm not even going to talk about the things I've involuntarily seen in smut fics— mein Gott!

Annoying Soviet Union Tropes

- He is the "victim." I dIdNt eXpEcT rEicH tO bAcKsTaB mE ;-; 

Bro you had a bunch of army supplies and soldiers right next to the border, ya think Deutschland would've sat around to be attacked?

- He is a loving father to "15 children." What?! Why are they his children? Do you not know that the countries under the Soviet Union belonged to multiple ethnic groups and were oppressed and starved by the Soviet government? Apparently not.

- He's addicted to vodka like the "edgy owo hot Russian alcoholic" he is.

- He's portrayed as innocent.

- He's incredibly overpowered.

- He has a "husky deep soothing UwU Russian accent owo"

Annoying tropes for both of them

- The oneshots where Soviet finds Reich cowering in a bunker. Again, A FREAKING REFERENCE TO THE EVIL MUSTACHE MAN. This is why people call us Nazis you guys. I can't with this one. I don't care how well-written it is, I'm simply sick of it.

- The oneshots solely about how Soviet tortures Reich after the war with no plot whatsoever.

- The stories where the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact flies out the window. WaIt tHeY sIgNeD a NoN aGgreSsIoN pAcT?

- The stories that exist solely for glorifying horribly history, abuse, mental illnesses, Stockholm Syndrome, and other sickening things. Aka, almost all stories revolving around them.
