"Are you alright darling? I didn't mean to make you upset in any way."
You smiled softly at the women as you exited Mike's room, said person's hand, clasped firmly around your own. "I'm alright," you smiled softly as you took sat back down at the table, "There's just. Something I should probably mention." Molly and Cecil looked rightly confused as you swallowed the lump in your throat. Your heart was pounding and your hands were shaking. Were you really ready to let people know?
No. Stop thinking like that. Of course, you were ready.
A soft squeeze around your hand was enough to steel your nerves ever so slightly. "That man," you began quietly, "The one on the news. He's my father."
The room went dead silent as Molly stared at you with wide eyes. For a long moment, no one moved and you began to assume the worst. Did you scare them? Did they think you were like him? Should you be in a mental hospital right now? Just as you were preparing to flee the room, something unexpected happened.
Molly came flying across the table, arms outstretched as she wrapped you in a tight hug. "Oh, deary! I am so sorry I didn't know! That must be awful for you. Please pay no mind to the things I said," she babbled quickly, tightening her grip around you.
You were in complete shock at what was happening. You hadn't been hugged by anyone other than Mike, William, Henry or Charlie in a long time, so the action surprised you. Especially considering you'd only met the women today. Sure she'd given you a hug earlier but it was quick and wasn't anywhere near like the one she was giving you now. Your breath hitched slightly as you bathed in the warmth of the hug. It was completely different to hugging anyone else. There was a particular warmth, a protective and gentleness to it. You'd only ever been hugged like this once before, and that was by your mother.
Slowly your hand slipped from Mike's grasp, and your arms moved to circle around the women. It took everything in you not to cry as the women rocked you back and forth, muttering apologies and complementing what an amazing girl you were. After what felt like hours the women pulled away and leant back in her seat, sending you a soft smile.
You opened your mouth to speak but Molly quickly raised her hand, silencing you. "I don't need any more than that darling. I know that must have been hard for you to say, so I'm not going to bombard you with questions. But if you ever need to talk, I'm right here."
The corners of your mouth turned up as you nodded your head in thanks. If you were to speak you knew you were probably going to cry. She was such a lovely woman. You had expected her and Cecil to ask questions, but they did nothing of the sort. Simply sent you words of comfort. "So," Molly piped up again as Mike reclaimed your hand, "Do you two have any interesting stories?"
"Well," you and Mike dragged, sharing a knowing look with eachother. You had plenty of stories. Maybe you should stick to the less horrific ones, however.
"(Y/n) punched me in the face once," Mike shrugged as a grin spread across Molly's face.
"I want to hear all about it."
"Bye Mum, bye Dad."
"By Mr and Mrs Schmidt."
"Of for goodness sake just call us Molly and Cecil," Molly called back as you waved goodbye to them from the lobby door. The rest of the evening had been rather pleasant. You mostly retold tales of when you and Mike had first met. Minus all the gory parts of course.
When Mike's parents had driven out of sight, Mike turned to you with a grin. "Look at you, my girls growing up," he fake sniffled.
"Haha, shut your face Schmidt," you replied with a roll of your eyes. Punching him in the shoulder.
