EJ Caswell - Long Distance

Ashlyn's phone rang, breaking the silence that had blanketed the living room. EJ, who sat on the opposite end of the couch, became confused when his cousin stood up and went to leave the room.

"What are you doing?"

"Uhm... I'm going to take this call?" She said, her tone questioning as if it wasn't obvious. "What are you doing?"

"No, why are you leaving? You never leave to take calls."

Ashlyn shook her head, rolling her eyes before she walked outside, answering the video call, walking further out onto the front lawn.

"Hey Y/n, how's it going?"

"Pretty good actually, but um...so... I'm here? And I know it's last minute but I was wondering if you could pick me up?" The girl on the other end of the call said, her brows wrinkled as she stepped outside into the bright sunlight. "Your parents already said I could crash with you guys-"

"Wait what do you mean you're here?"

"I mean that I'm here? Like I just got off my plane-"

"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"

"Because I wanted to surprise everyone." Y/n chuckled before she shook her head. "Are you picking me up or not?"

"Yes, yes of course I am. Just give me like fifteen minutes and I'll be there- do you want me to bring EJ?"

"Is he there?"

"Yeah."

"No, no, I want to surprise him. He thinks I'm at my house." She laughed, shrugging even though Ashlyn couldn't see her. "Thanks for picking me up. I'll see you in a bit."

"Yup, see you then."

Ashlyn ended the call and she walked inside, sliding her phone into her back pocket, walking to the table, grabbing her keys and wallet.

"Who was that and where are you going?"

"It was... Nini...she needed a...ride?"

"You don't sound certain about that-" His brow raised, questioningly. Ashlyn cut him off.

"Whatever I'll be back-"

"I'll go with you-"

"No! I mean, no she doesn't want anyone else to come..." The cousins looked at each other but neither said anything for a moment. Before EJ could speak, Ashlyn rushed out the door.

It didn't take long for her to get to the airport and it's didn't take long for her to find Y/n. She pulled up beside her, leaving her car running after she put it in park.

Ashlyn quickly got out and wrapped Y/n in a tight hug, the girl laughing as she hugged back. "You're actually here-"

"Yeah, yeah I am." She laughed, holding her hands out to the side as if silently saying 'shocking, I know'

"EJ is going to be so surprised, how long are you going to be here? Are you moving back? Why didn't you tell EJ you were coming? I mean, I get you wanted to surprise him but-"

"Ashlyn- Ashlyn- dude I just got here, chill."

Ashlyn closed her mouth, giving a short nod. "Right sorry, I'm just so happy you're here, let's get going. EJ thinks I'm lying to him about giving Nini a ride."

No sooner than Y/n and Ashlyn had loaded her bags in Ashlyns car and gotten in, Y/n's phone chimed.

She looked at the notification, seeing it was a message from EJ. He was asking if he could call her. She told him that he could and soon her phone was ringing.

"Okay, don't make a sound-" Y/n said before accepting the call. "Hey babe, what's up?"

"Hey, nothing you just haven't texted me much today, I was wondering if I did something..."

"No, no, sorry I've just been busy." She said. "Y'know how it is, some people think the house has to look immaculate, y'know."

"Oh yeah, yeah no I understand..." He trailed off. "Wait, are you in a car? I thought you were cleaning?"

"I was-"

"Who are you with?"

"Myself? EJ, babe chill out." Y/n managed to let out a laugh despite being anxious. She knew he wouldn't believe that.

"Are you lying to me?"

"No, babe I'm not-"

There was a sigh on his end of the line, and Y/n could see him rubbing the bridge of his nose in her mind, him being frustrated.

"I gotta go, Y/n."

"EJ-"

The line went dead before she could say anything else, but luckily they had just turned into Ashlyns road. Y/n wasted no time getting out of the car, before it was even parked.

She wasted less time rushing in.

"EJ."

Shocked at hearing her voice, he turned around from his seat on the couch and stared at her before rushing over to where she was standing.

"Oh my God-"

"Hey." She laughed quietly, grinning brightly as she looked at him, his eyes wide with surprised.

"Ashlyn, this isn't Nini-"

"Nope, and you're welcome."

EJ wrapped his arms around the girl tightly, he was fairly certain he was imagining this. "What are you doing here babe?"

"I'm here to surprise y'all." She slipped her arms around him. "Schools already out for me so my folks talked to Ashlyns annnnd they agreed to let me crash here for the entire summer-"

"Oh my God, I can't believe you're here-"

Y/n laughed. "I'm sorry for not telling you, I just wanted it to be a surprise."

"Well, now that I know you weren't cheating on me, I'm happy, and I'm even happier that you're here and you get to spend the summer with me."

"I'm happy to be here too EJ."

He placed his hands on her cheeks softly, pulling her in, kissing her softly.

"I can't believe it." He laughed, kissing her once more.
