Many in our society are experiencing lots of intimidation, push around, persecuted, tormented, dominated, harassment, and bullied. In in our generation the rate of the teens/kids that's affected by this are increasing and becoming wider through the work of social media.
According to the definition of National Centre Against Bullying; bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power by one individual through its relationship towards other people, means to say that it is still in a state of an issue that is debatable continuously of how a person uses his/her power inappropriately. While social media is a platform where most of us uses to create and share content in social networking sites which enables users to virtually and easily use or abuse a person. This proves that bullying can freely happen in a personal or online via digital platforms and devices, it maybe exposed or hidden but it might always be repeated. Once that it started, it can leads to harassment, and social media had been a big area of how this issue spread more. Based on the consolidated report of Department of Education (DepEd), bullying in the Philippines increased by 21% by the year of 2014. (2015, Sonnie) Statistical analysis include that with the students involved in social media sites, cyberbullying arises and causes it to be more severe throughout the area of learning at schools, so by the year of 2015 the Anti-bullying Act of 2013 (RA10627) was revised penal code for the cybercrime prevention Act of 2015. (2017, Dela Cruz, Cyndy P.) Moreover, in the study of Pew Research Center survey in US, that the majority of teens have experience some form of cyberbullying wherein 59% of teens was bullied or harassed online and social media companies and politicians are failing at addressing this issue. (2018, Anderson M.)
Therefore, throughout the days and years, bullying had become wider and have been increasing because of the use of social media, into this we are lacking much responsible and careful with the limitation of use of the technological generation, while the internet is growing alongside to this is the cybercrime prevention is suffering. And this has to stop. We needed to practice and train more about the phrase of "think before you click" behaviour, and in this way our world may have been a better place for our new generation to be more wiser.
