We all know that this pandemic had been defecting our country's capabilities and capacity on our economic development, it almost gave us the hard time to rise from more poverty rate again as our country's suffering since the year of 1998. Being one of the third world countries, we needed more growth opportunities—and not on threats. Our money exchange rate just decreased by 0.05% this last Friday, September 25 in the previous trading session (2020; tradingeconomics.com), the matter doesn't match with what we must give focus on if we want to have a stable economic system.
Things might get any worse but look at what our government's doing with our budget money, rehabilitating Roxas Boulevard for another tourist spot in our country—just right in the middle of many people's suffering in this crisis, they choose to use our taxes with building such tourist attraction that might lead many people to go outside and check it out and what? Get some viruses. The question is, should the government continue its rehabilitation transforming the boulevard into a Boracay-like beach, despite the resentment of many who believe that it is just a useless waste of money?
I couldn't disagree more. Don't get me wrong, I am not against reducing the waste and polluted garbage on the said place, but rehabilitation is not always the best choice to clean it. And as far as I know, the positive cases of infected with the virus from COVID19 in our country had been increasing, and we must have used our opportunity cost on what's most important right now.
Many Filipinos are poor and hungry and some workers who provide for their family's necessities had to stop working for most companies and corporations are reducing their workers and having a skeletal function which lessens the salaries of their employees. As of this moment, nothing seems to change on our economic growth since the Enhance Community Quarantine (ECQ) was raised for our good and safety, and having rehabilitation in the Roxas Boulevard doesn't help our people. It is not the best choice to use our opportunity cost with it, if only the government came up with many opposing ideas about this pandemic and the positive cases, it may help a lot of Filipino people to suffer from more poverty in the middle of this crisis. I knew that many poor people had been living in the said rehabilitation area, and in the middle of this pandemic their houses got destroyed because of the said project.
This pandemic needed more attention than anything else. Many people are dying and our government is doing rehabilitation of another tourist attraction, should we just let this go on? Definitely not.
