Annabeth POV:

"Annabeth. Have you been seeing someone else?" Percy asked staring desperately into her eyes.

His lip quivered with uncertainty, his hands fidgeting at his side. "Percy why would you ever ask such a thing. I love you, I would never." I replied, honestly hurt that he would imply such a thing.

The question had come out of nowhere on our quiet walk on the beach. Well come to think of it, Percy had been acting strange lately. He would ask questions about the new camper Jace, and frown when I did not know how to respond.

"I've seen the way that idiot looks at you Annabeth. Do you feel anything for him?" Percy asked again.

"Percy, I told you I do not see him that way. I know the way Lu-Jace looks at me, I am not dumb. I could never even consider being with him." I stuttered catching myself on Jace's name.

It was scary the way he looked so much like Luke. When I was younger I had had a crush on Luke but I realized that I did not really feel that way. I was meant to be with someone else. The sweet loyal son of Posiedon, my Percy.

Now Percy was asking if I was seeing someone else. I could not deny that Jace had tried to kiss me or go on a date with me before. One time he found me in the training pavilion and tried to kiss me. I gave him a bruise to remember.

"I don't trust that slimeball I don't want him anywhere near you." Percy growled.

He glanced at me with just the slightest hint of mistrust, which made me wince.

"I can take care of myself. I don't need you to watch me all the time. I love you and I will deal with this problem on my own." I replied sternly.

The mistrust and uncertainty still lingered in Percy's sea green gaze. He bit his lip and continued to fidget with his hands. Now, I had known him long enough to know that he didn't trust me. He didn't believe me.

"But, Annie, I. . ." Percy stuttered.

"Perseus Jackson! I am seventeen I can take care of guy problems on my own. I understand you want to protect me, but crowding me with suspicious questions doesn't help!" I snapped.

I turned and walked back towards camp. Feeling guilty for yelling the whole way.

I looked back once and saw Percy turn towards the the sea looking guilty and upset. Oh my sweet Seaweed Brain, I thought.

Twenty minutes later Jace ran up to me. I was ready to judo flip the jerk when I noticed he was breathing heavy. I could tell some of the deep breathes were fake. He was trying to seem like he had just been running, the idiot. No one breathes like that.

"I was practicing with some lightning and there was a small fire behind my cabin, a dryad got hurt real bad!" Jace exclaimed, not seeming worried but excited.

"Come on Annie! I need your help!" He added.

Jace grabbed my arm but I bit my lip and decided to see what he was up to, so I let him pull me along.

I was expecting to see some sort of date set up but instead there was nothing. Everything was normal.

"What is this?" I demanded.

"Oh, I guess everything was fine after all." Jace said casually.

I tried to walk past him but Jace stuck his hand out and a sudden gust of wind pushed me back. "Let me go you heap of trash, or you'll regret it." I threatened. He smiled slyly at me, and tried to put his hand on my face.

I slapped it away and shoved him off. I tried to get away but he put his strong hands on my shoulders and shoved me against the wall.

It was all slow motion. Jace leaning his lips towards mine. Percy peeking around the corner of the cabin, a disgusted look on his face. Being blasted six feet in the air by a spray of water.

Then time sped up, I landed on the hard dusty ground. And looked at Percy who was now a few steps away. His usual calm sea green eyes were replaced by a stormy emerald-blue gaze. He looked broken. I felt myself start to cry. He looked destroyed.

I tried to say anything but no words came out before he bolted into the dark woods. His expression showing nothing but pain and heartbreak.
