I wanted to call Rachel as soon as I got home, but I was afraid she would think I'm crazy. So, to kill time, I did my homework that my classmates so generously made me have.

About an hour later, I decided to grow some balls and call her.

"Hello?" Rachel's voice said over the line.

"Hey, Rachel, it's Tyler."

"Hi, Tyler."

"What's up?"

"Nothing special. Just finished my homework. You?"

"Same. So, I was wondering," I said.

"Yes?" She said.

"Would you want to hang out or something on Friday?"

"Yes, totally."

"Really?"

"Yeah, of course."

"Alright. What do you want to do?"

"There's that ice cream place up by the school, we can go there."

"Okay. You know I've lived here for half a year and never been there."

"Really? They have really good ice cream and shakes."

"They better, I'm trusting you."

She giggled. "Alright, well I'll see you at school and on Friday."

"Okay."

"Bye."

I hung up and set my phone aside.

I went into the living room to see if either of my parents were home yet.

Mom was, but not dad. I didn't bother to ask because he'll probably be here soon.

"Hey, mom." I said.

"Hey, son."

"We're not doing anything this weekend, right?"

"No, why?"

"Just wondering."

"Got a hot date?" She joked.

"Maybe."

She glanced at me. "Tyler asked someone out?" She said. "Son, are you feeling okay?"

"Real funny."

"So, who is this lucky person?" She asked.

"No one." I said, because she knows Rachel . . . or at least Rachel's dad.

"It's not Bohn, is it?"

"What? No." I said.

"Okay, good. I don't care if it's a boy, but not Michael." She said.

I rolled my eyes. She's never liked Michael.

"But, no, it's a girl." I said.

"What's her name?"

"Don't flip out. She's one of your favorite students in the whole school, so don't act ridiculous." I said.

"Okay. So?"

"Rachel."

"You're dating Rachel Reece?" She yelled.

"We're not dating!" I said.

"I would have never expected it to be Rachel!" She said.

"Yeah, I know. Bye, now." I said, running back to my room.
