ding! dong!

mark pressed the doorbell to hyejin's house, holding a fresh bouquet of white carnations in his arms. he smiled happily, excited to be taking his girlfriend out for the night.

he had listened to miyong's suggestion of taking hyejin out on a date as well as bringing her flowers, and thought that it would be an excellent way to make it up to her for whatever he did wrong.

earlier this afternoon, he had gone to the florist to pick up a bouquet of fresh florals.

he couldn't seem to decide which flowers hyejin would like, as the shop offered a large variety, so he decided to pick out miyong's favourite — white carnations — in hopes that hyejin would like them too.

the door mark stood in front of swung open to reveal hyejin wearing a pretty slim-fitted black dress. it wrapped nicely around her body, showing off her slim figure and well-proportioned curves.

mark smiled looking at the pretty girl that stood in front of him, he couldn't believe that she was actually his.

he would never tell anyone how much he liked hyejin, people would probably think he was pathetic.

he would lose his playboy status if others knew he had let himself be tied down by some girl.

but to him, she wasn't just some girl.

he swore he would never tell anyone.

other than miyong, of course.

"woah, you look amazing." mark said to hyejin with a grin.

she leaned seductively against the door frame and flashed a smile back. her long dark hair falling neatly onto her bare shoulders.

"these flowers are for you," mark said, handing her the beautiful bouquet.

"oh, mark. that's so kind of you." hyejin replied, batting her long eyelashes sweetly.

she took the flowers and inhaled, taking in the scent.

her expression suddenly changed, as she raised an eyebrow and took another sniff. "are these carnations?" hyejin asked, holding the flowers slightly away from her face.

"yes. i thought they were pretty— just like you. they're m—" mark began.

"i can't stand the smell of carnations, mark." hyejin said, crinkling her nose. "they smell like cheap sugar and candy."

"i prefer roses. they're more extravagant looking, and also smell better. red roses to be exact." she placed the flowers on the counter and shrugged.

"oh. i'll... remember that for next time." mark slowly said, extending his arm out for her to hold onto, slightly discouraged. "shall we go?"

"hmm. okay."

the two made their way to mark's car, and he opened the door for her politely. she thanked him as he went around to sit in the driver's seat.

"so where do you want to go, babe?" mark asked hyejin, as he got into the car. he looked over at her in the passenger's seat, only to see her shrug lightly.

"i don't know, but i'd be okay going anywhere with you." hyejin said scrunching her face up cutely, intertwining her hand with mark's.

mark tried to hold back a smile as her words had made him soft. anywhere with you.

"hmm..." he thought, an idea suddenly came to his mind.

"should we go pick up some takeout, sit on the grass in the park and watch the sunset? i have some blankets in the trunk if it gets cold. it's been something i've wanted to do for awhil—"

"mark." hyejin began, looking into mark's eyes giving him a look. "by anywhere i meant someplace real. i didn't get dressed up for nothing you know." she said motioning towards herself.

"oh, right." mark replied. his heart slightly sank, but he nodded in agreement to what hyejin had said. it made sense that since she got dressed up they should go somewhere — in her words — real.

"what about that new restaurant that just opened downtown? shall we go there instead?" mark asked caressing her hand.

"now that sound's about right. i'd love that, mark." hyejin said beaming.

her face lit up and her eyes glittered. it was like she was a movie character in a slow-motion shot— absolute perfection.

mark's heart cheered. he loved seeing her happy. it was what made him happy.

and all he wanted was for her to be happy, right?

as the two drove towards the restaurant, mark's hand fell to rest on hyejin's thigh, lightly caressing it, which made her giggle.

during the entire drive, hyejin talked about her recent shopping trip with her friends. while mark loved to hear her voice, for some reason he couldn't pay attention.

deep down inside, mark was wondering why she hadn't liked his suggestion of watching the sunset.

the way the radiant sphere of light in the sky slowly fell below the horizon, drew mark in. the dreamy aura that filled the air was mark's favourite feeling.

he used to do it all the time with miyong, she loved it just as much as he did. it was something they had done since they were kids— sitting in his backyard on the small swing set he had, watching the sun meet the skyline.

so why didn't hyejin?

"mark?" hyejin's airy voice penetrated his thoughts.

"yes, beautiful?" mark replied, hand still caressing her thigh.

"i said, do you think this dress looks good on me?" hyejin asked as-a-matter-of-factly.

"you look good in everything babe." mark answered sending her a small wink.

hyejin looked away pretending to be shy about what mark had just said.

mark couldn't help but smile at the pretty girl beside him. the girl in the little black dress.

"and look at that, we're here."
