The bang of a tire popping and the screeching sound of braking wheels followed by the sound of breaking glass woke Frost up. He shot up in fright, covered in sweat, while gasping for air. He felt his chest where he dreamt a piece of metal stabbed him in the car accident. Nothing. It was just a nightmare. The same nightmare he kept having since his father died.
"Frost? What's wrong?" Cassie asked as she sat up next to Frost.
"Nothing, Cassie. It was just a nightmare." Frost said as he took deep breaths, trying not to think of his father.
"Want to talk about it?" Cassie asked as she rubbed his back gently to comfort him.
"No, I'm fine." Frost replied as he shook his head.
"You sure?" Cassie asked as she looked worriedly at him.
"I'm sure, Cassie." Frost answered as he gave her a reassuring smile before laying back down on his bed.
Both Cassie and Frost turned their heads to the door as it opened slowly. David shyly stood in the doorway while wearing his pyjamas.
"Yes, David?" Cassie asked as she smiled at him.
"Mama says it's time for beakfast." David announced.
"It's pronounced breakfast." Cassie corrected David.
"Beakfast." David said.
"Brrrrreakfast." Cassie tried to help him.
"Beakfast." David repeated.
Frost began to chuckle under his breath as Cassie sighed in defeat. David just waved at Frost and he waved back, before David left.
"Does he struggle with his r's a lot?" Frost asked as he stood up.
"Not really. He just struggles to pronounce certain words as you just saw." Cassie explained as she got up as well.
"Ah, I see." Frost said as he nodded.
Cassie smiled at Frost and he returned her smile with his own. They left his room as the smell of eggs and bacon filled the hallway. Their stomachs growled in unison and saliva filled their mouths as they hurried downstairs to eat breakfast before getting ready for school.
Mrs Kruger drove Frost and Cassie to school after picking up Jane as well. Frost took a deep breath as he stood nervously in front of the high school gate. Big metallic letters, Furries Unite, stood proudly above the gate to indicate the schools name.
"You ready for this?" Jane asked as she looked at Frost then Cassie.
"You got this, Frost." Cassie reassured him.
"Okay. I can do this." Frost said as he double-checked that his hoodie covered most of his face.
Cassie and Jane began to lead the way while Frost followed closely behind them. They were going to show Frost around and where his classes are, as well the bathroom, cafeteria, etc.
Meanwhile on the other side of the school grounds, around the corner, two figures were talking.
"Any sighting, T?" The taller and more muscular figure asked.
"Not yet, Jess." T replied.
"How hard can it be to spot a single human among a bunch of furries?" Jess complained.
"Easy now. Remember, Jessica. He is new here and will most likely be wearing a hoodie." T explained.
"Then look for a guy in a hoodie. Tina, why can't we just use the Nano BAC to track him?" Jessica (Jess) asked.
"Because we have to blend in and find him accidentally. Remember, we don't know him yet." Tina (T) explained.
"But we do know him." Jessica stated.
"We have to meet him naturally here. No one here is suppose to know who we really are or that we already know him. We're just high scholars here." Tina explained.
"Fine. It just feels like a waste of time." Jessica sighed impatiently.
"Yeah yeah. I know... Wait! I think that's him." Tina said excitedly.
"Where?" Jessica asked as she got up.
"8 o'clock. He's wearing jeans and a black hoodie." Tina said.
"How do you know its him?" Jessica asked.
"Look in front of him. See those two girls?" Tina said.
"What about them?" Jessica asked.
"Do they look familiar?" Tina asked.
"Yeah. That's Cassie and Jane." Jessica answered.
"And..." Tina said.
"And they are the two who he saved." Jessica continued as realization came over her face.
"Exactly." Tina said with a nod.
"So do we approach them now or when?" Jessica asked as she looked at her shorter companion.
"Let's just wait and meet him like in class or something." Tina replied.
"Okay." Jessica replied.
"Well well well. What do we gave here?" A voice asked behind them.
They nearly jumped as they swung around to look at two guys.
"What do you want, Burt?" Jessica asked as she folded her arms while looking unimpressed.
"What? Can't two guys talk to two girls?" Burt asked innocently.
"From what we heard of you, you guys aren't the type of furs who are just interested some chitchat." Tina said while looking disgusted at Burt and his companion, Fynx.
"And what exactly did you hear of us?" Fynx asked with a slight growl.
"Wouldn't you like to know? Come on, T. Let's go." Jessica said as she and Tina turned around to leave.
"You aren't going anywhere." Burt said as he and Fynx went to grab them.
Burt grabbed Jessica and was immediately met with an elbow in the snout. He staggered backwards before Jessica sparta kicked Burt into the trash cans. Tina on the other hand saw Fynx coming and ducked while turning around to give Fynx a left hook in the stomach, making him groan in pain and clutched his stomach. Fynx then got kneed in the face by Tina, making him topple over onto Burt. The two groaned while the girls left like nothing happened.
