The Siren from Atlantis

Chapter 3 - the Story of Atlantis

You had been writing down everything that they needed to know about your family, Atlantis and what the current situation was to ensure they fully understand what exactly is going on. The team was now reading it all and you held your notebook ready in case they had any questions that needed answering.

Let's start with a history lesson about Atlantis and my family...

Many years ago the gods of this realm (my family) lived on land and our kingdom was ruled by Cronus, the god of harvest and Rhea, the god of fertility. They gave birth to 6 children and one of them is Poseidon, god of the sea and my grandfather. Everything was fine at first but Cronus and Rhea quickly become hungry for power, wanting to get all the different powers from all the other gods for themselves to dominate this world. The children didn't agree and a war started between them.

This war was won by the children and both Cronus and Rhea were stripped of their powers and demoted to mortal beings. They decided to rule the kingdom together to ensure that if something similar happened it wouldn't be as easy and this way each important decision they had to make would be thought through by multiple gods. 

They also decided to instead rule our kingdom from the shadows and let nature take its course. So they moved the whole city of Atlantis to a place where no ordinary man would be able to find us. Somewhere hidden deep in the ocean.

There was peace in the kingdom for a very long time and our family grew. I drew a family tree to make it easier for you. Our family is much more complicated than this but then you'll know the names and relationships of the gods that play the biggest role in this matter.

"Wait there are gods on earth?" Peter asked first, while Thor huffed when he saw Earth had a god of thunder as well. 

[ Yes, you're actually living on one as well.]

He looked at you confused. "Do you mean mother earth?" Loki asked you to which you nodded in reply.

[We call her Gaia, she is the mother of Cronus and Rhea. Technically you are all her children. Well, except Loki and Thor.]

"And you are the god of... Sirens and Sea-nymphs?" Tony asked you a little sceptical.

[No I'm not a god yet, I'm just a siren]

You quickly continued writing when you saw that they all looked at you confused.

[In our case being a god can be seen as a job. Everyone has their duties that they swore to perform and for each duty, you get certain powers to help you. Getting promoted means you'll gain or swap powers and if you get demoted or resign, you lose them again. Since my grandfather is the god of the Sea, I'm in line to eventually take over those duties and become one of the rulers. My current duty is to help protect the sea and all the creatures it contains. My main power is my voice with which I can manipulate others into doing what I want them to. Because of Ares that power is now gone. Luckily I still had all my other powers, like transforming my legs into a tail and minor water manipulation. Wouldn't have made it here otherwise.]

"Ah so Loki was right, you are a mermaid!" Thor said after reading your note to which you nodded. "Wait, ehm what's the difference between sirens, nymphs and mermaids? If I, if I may ask?" Peter asked you then.

[Mermaids are beings from Atlantis that can transform themselves from human-like to merpeople. Sea-nymphs are mermaids that have the duty to take care of the ocean and its creatures. The siren is the leader of the sea-nymphs and has extra powers. So I'm the only one that is all three.]

Steve looked up after he finished reading the note. "Could you tell us more about Ares and what exactly he did?"

You nodded again and gave him the other sheet of paper you prepared for them.
