A Pep Talk

Y/N POV

The next day we head to Oobleck's history class.

Oobleck: "Prior to the Faunus War, humans were insistent about centralizing the Faunus population in Menagerie. While this might sound like ancient history to most of you, it is important to know that these events are relativity recent. The ramifications of which can still be felt today. Now who among you have been hated and judged because of your Faunus heritage?"

I look around to find most of the Faunus raise their hand.

Oobleck: "This is simply dreadful. It is exactly this kind of ignorance that births violence. Take the White Fang for example. Which of you can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagune during the war?"

Jaune: *holds head* "Hey."

Oobleck: "Mr. Arc, tell me, what is the answer?"

Jaune discreetly looks over Oobleck's should to see Pyrrha giving him the answer via charades.

Jaune: "Binoculars?"

Oobleck: "Very funny Mr. Arc. Cardin, perhaps you can give a non comedic answer?"

Cardin: "It's far simpler to train an animal than a person."

Pyrrha: "That's very close minded."

Cardin: "You got a problem?"

Pyrrha: "I have the answer Oobleck. It's night vision. Many Faunus are know to see clearly in the dark."

Blake: "General Lagune was a fool. His army outmatched and he was inexperienced. He made the crucial mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus while they slept. Perhaps if he'd paid more attention in class then he wouldn't have gone down in history as a failure."

She looks at Cardin which makes him mad but us laugh at him. Some nights later I walk to my dorm when I see Jaune trudging through the hallway.

Y/N: *mouths* "What's wrong buddy?"

Jaune: "I messed up big time. I said something I shouldn't have. Now my team probably hates me, Pyrrha won't even talk to me and I'm starting to think that coming to this school was a bad idea."

He slumps beside his dorm door when I join him.

Y/N: "You know I used to think like that."

Jaune looks at me and I explain my past.

Y/N: "Before I came here I was in an abusive home. My dad was the main tormentor with my mother sometimes getting in on the action. But that was only so she could spare herself from the abuse. They beat me for several years and at one point I actually considered suicide just to end it all."

Jaune: "What stopped you?"

Y/N: "I just held out hope, hope that I could one day defend myself and escape the hell I was experiencing. That hope came when my semblance activated. I used its powers to stand up to my abusers and left them. After that I came here, made new friends and begin to feel happy."

Jaune: "What does it all mean though?"

Y/N: "You just got to have hope. If you maintain it then something good will come along and help you in your times of trouble. There's no telling what it may be, it could be anything from a semblance to a simple friend. You have friends all around you Jaune, me included. If you ever need any help don't hesitate to ask. You're not alone here, we're here for you."

Jaune looks down before looking back at me and smiling.

Jaune: "Thanks Y/N. I really needed that."

Y/N: "Glad I could help."

We stand up and each head to our dorms. The next day we head to the Forever Fall Forest and split up to collect our sap. After filling my jar and heading back to the others I see Russel come running to us. He shouts Ursa and points. I run there and see Jaune in the heat of battle with a large Ursa Major. I draw my sword and ready it when Pyrrha appears and holds her hand in front of me. I look at her and she shakes her head. I put away my sword and watch Jaune fight.

Jaune slashes the Ursa Major's chest which makes it roar it pain. It then attacks low which makes Jaune jump. The Ursa Major strikes and knocks Jaune into the dirt. He picks himself up and runs at the Ursa Major. It slaps him away and back into the dirt. Jaune stands up and looks at his Aura level. 

He sighs before letting out a battle cry and running at the Ursa Major. They each go to attack but I see that Jaune's shield is too low. A black glow encases his shield and is risen to the correct position. Jaune waves his shield to the side and cuts off the Ursa Major's head. I look at Pyrrha and see that same black glow on her hand.

Weiss: "How..."

Pyrrha: "Ruby has her speed, you your glyphs and Y/N his voice. For me it's polarity."

Ruby: "You can control poles?"

I smiles and pat her head.

Weiss: "No you dunce. It means she can control magnets."

Ruby: "Those are cool too."
