I'm here.

Although he knew it wasn't, Louis felt like it was his heart that had a bullet buried deep in his flesh. It felt heavy, yet empty. He felt empty. They just killed a man, and Louis couldn't do anything. They had just tortured that man just one door away and he listened to the screams and cries and right now he prayed no one else, or himself would ever have to go through that too.
Right now, it was dead silent. Well, apart from his and Harry's breathing, that evened a while ago because they had been sitting in their hugged position for ten silent minutes, until Harry finally spoke.
"I'm really sorry you had to hear that." Louis didn't react, eyes dry by now. "I'm sorry that had to happen." Louis tried holding back but couldn't help let out a small huff. "I'm sorry we did that."
Now Louis tensed as he pulled back a little so he could look in Harry's eyes, searching for honesty in his eyes as he didn't know if he could trust his voice.
"Please know that we'd never do that to you, I wouldn't let- I'll make sure of that." Louis lightly nodded as he slowly became aware of his surroundings again. His left leg felt a bit numb.
"How-" Louis chocked on his tears a bit, "How can you-" he looked deep into Harry's green eyes, "How can you guys do such a thing? How do you get that over your heart?" he whispered the last sentence, unable to stop his voice from breaking.
"We have to, Lou. It's our, our boss tells us to do something and we do it. That's how it goes." Louis sighed and Harry gently grabbed his face. That's when Louis noticed the tears in Harry's eyes and his voice was on the verge of breaking, too. "They, erm- I don't know about Liam and Niall but, at first I refused to torture or kill people, but then- then they, they threatened to kill me and then to torture me and-" a tear dropped down his cheek as he looked back up in Louis' eyes.
"They threatened to torture and kill my mom, and my sister." He even let out a little chuckle between his tears as he admitted this. Louis didn't know what to say. He'd kind of suspected this. He had come to realise that there was no way in this world that Harry would voluntarily torture and kill people. There had to be a reason, ergo, someone must've threatened with something. If someone threatened to lay a finger on Louis' mum or sisters, he'd probably obey too.
"I'm sorry." He breathed and Harry sighed lightly in content, relieved that Louis understood.
He didn't know anything more to say, so he slowly brought his hand up to Harry's face, cupping his cheek, and caressed the few fallen tears away with his thumb. Their eyes were locked and Louis wasn't completely aware of everything until they rested their foreheads together. He still didn't know how he could have fallen for this criminal, but he knew he had.
How could it possibly work, though, is what was clouding Louis' mind in that very moment of calmness. How could they ever be together when the mafia had him trapped. How could it possibly work for him to be with someone who was ending other's lives to save those of his beloved ones. Would they use him too? If they found out about them, the mafia? Would Harry have to kill others to save him, too? He couldn't possibly be the reason for anyone's death, he just couldn't.
Another problem was Niall. Louis had done the best he could to stay calm around him and make sure he was never alone with the guy, but he couldn't help but let his mind slip from decent language right now. Niall was a selfish, unbelievably idiotic, careless monster. He was a fucking asshole. There, Louis had the right to think that way about him. He was still fucking scared of him, though, so saying it out loud wouldn't happen anytime soon.
"You know I'd do anything to save you, right?" Louis felt Harry's eyes on him, but kept his own closed, "Lou?"
"Yeah, I guess so." Louis sighed. He knew, he knew it very well. It's what scared him the most.
"Even if its Niall." That sentence seemed to push his heart down until it dropped to his stomach. It made him feel utterly uncomfortable knowing Niall still had free access to go wherever he wanted, in this house, in this world, to him, to Harry
"How- how far would you go?" He tried to whisper but the breaking of the words gave his voice access.
"I'd kill him if he came near you again." He sounded determined now. Louis wasn't sure though. Of course he believed Harry would do anything to protect him, and he also believed if Niall would try to kill Louis that Harry would actually go as far as killing Niall. He believed it, but it wasn't Harry he was doubting. Louis wasn't entirely sure Niall would be that easy to kill, especially when he was angry and aiming for Louis. He was so scared that if Harry came in between them, there'd be some sort of fight. Louis didn't want to question Harry's abilities, but he couldn't help but fear for Harry's life if that would ever occur.
He had to get the fuck out of there, for Harry's sake.
It wouldn't even work. It couldn't work. Even if he had feelings for Harry and Harry would happen to return those, it could never end up good. There would always be problems. Niall to start with, but then there's the whole mafia thing. Louis also couldn't live with him while he still killed people on a regular base, he just wouldn't be able too.
This was all just a fucked up mess.
His feelings too, were a fucked up mess.
