Lavender
The house was cozy, at least.
Lavender and her companions settled in the guest room but not before Fox pulled her aside to talk.
"I remember you," She said. "From when you came to the party my brother had a few years back."
Lavender narrowed her eyes. "Hmm... oh, right. You were the one talking with the Icewing, right?"
"Lapis," Fox confirmed. "So, sorry, but what's the deal between you and my b- Comet?"
"It's nothing, we just have a general dislike for each other." Lavender said, though that definitely wasn't the entire truth.
Fox nodded. "You two haven't... I mean you never-"
"No! No, of course not! That would be disgusting!" Lavender shook her head vigorously.
Fox sighed in relief. "Yeah, I'm sorry about that." She stretched her wings and stepped into her room. "Well, have a good night Lavender, we'll discuss what to do tomorrow."
Lavender nodded and walked back into the guest room, where Fennec and Oleander were already fast asleep together. She collapsed on a fur blanket, her dreams being filled with old memories.
Lavender sat back against a tree.
A Nightwing swung out from above her on a branch. He grinned while hanging upside down. "Hey Lavs." Comet said.
Lavender smiled back. "Hey Comet, what's up?"
"Oh, nothing. Training sure was hard today though, eh?" He asked, hopping down next to her.
Lavender rolled her eyes. "Whatever star student." She said, playfully punching his shoulder.
"What? Star student?" He asked sarcastically.
She heard a branch crack and ducked as a dark blue bolt shot overhead.
Silver fell snout first in the ground in front of them. He pulled himself up and snorted out a butterfly. "Hey guys!" He said, turning around. "What's up?"
"Hey Silver!" Comet thumped his wings with Silver's.
Silver tilted his head up at the trees. "Chocolate! Come on down!"
Lavender froze as a beautiful brown dragon gracefully landed beside Silver.
"What now, Silver?" Chocolate asked in a patient yet frustrated voice.
"C'mon Chocolate, you need to make some new friends. Comet, this is my cousin Chocolate. Chocolate, this is Comet... wait, why am I introducing you two, we go to the same school." Silver shrugged. "Anyway, this is Lavender." He said, guiding the brown dragon to her.
Lavender stared into his dashing eyes, his calm yet peaceful gaze piercing her heart. "H-hi." She stammered.
Chocolate apparently recognized her from their first class. "Oh, it's you." He said, looking her up and down.
Comet stepped forward. "What's wrong, angry that a girl beat you?" He asked snidely.
"Of course not!" Chocolate huffed indignantly.
"What are you doing?" Lavender hissed quietly.
Comet rolled his eyes. "I bet Lavender could beat you up as easily as Silver."
"Probably," Silver agreed.
Chocolate scoffed. "Whatever." He snapped and stormed off.
"Ack, Chocolate, wait up!" Silver called, running into the distance.
Lavender pushed Comet into a tree. "What is your problem!" She shouted.
"W-what?" Comet stumbled and tripped over a root.
"Ugh! That was my one chance of getting him to like me, and you blew it!" Lavender walked off, not bothering to look back.
"Lavender!" He shouted. "Lavender, wait!"
She didn't stop. Not until she made it back to her parent's house and cried herself to sleep.
Deathbringer's academy ended a few days later, not that she went. And she heard from Silver that Comet had left a week later.
She felt guilty but managed to brush it off. Who needed friends anyway?
Lavender woke up the next morning feeling the same anger she had back then.
Oleander walked into the room. "Oh, you're awake. You must have had a bad dream last night, you were scratching the air in your sleep."
Lavender felt her scales turn cold. "It's nothing."
Oleander shrugged. "Okay, well, Ms. Fox made these muffin things with blueberries in them. You should try one."
"Yeah, okay. I'll be out in a minute." Lavender said.
Oleander nodded and walked back out.
Lavender sighed and stretched her wings. Her ears caught the sound of a claw against the floor. She spun around, only to meet Comet's stare.
"What do you want?" Lavender asked harshly.
"I think you mean 'Thank you for letting me sleep here, Comet.'" He said.
Lavender scoffed and pushed past him.
Fennec looked up at her, his eyes looking for any emotions on her. Lavender changed her scales to a bland purple and red before opening the door and walking outside.
The air outside was damp from last night's storm. A dark blue sky shined over her, littered with small white clouds.
She took a deep breath and focused her emotions.
Just focus.
But she couldn't bring herself to do it. Comethunter had been her only friend and losing him had taken a toll on her, whether she could bring herself to say it or not.
The worst part was that their friendship ended sour and it was her fault. She could have made him apologize, she could have fixed everything, but instead she blocked him out.
"Three moons..." Lavender whispered. She shook the thoughts out and pushed the door open, heading back into the house.
