Two months had passed.
What felt like forever with her fighting. Fighting her own demons and the ones around her. The firehouse. She hated the place. This was supposed to be her dream. It always had. But she hated the place. She was glad another shift was finally coming to an end.
"Chief wants to see you before you leave" Kemp scowled bluntly at her.
She made her way to his office, taking a deep breath before she knocked.
"You wanted to see me?" She asked politely.
"This is Chief Boden, he has some news for you"
"I've spoken with your chief, I saw you on your last call, the hotel fire, you're a real talented smoke eater"
Stella stood nodding as she was intrigued with what he had to say.
"We would like to recruit you to firehouse 51"
"Yes" she blurted out quickly.
The excitement of leaving this place was rushing through her body. Boden chuckled slightly at how enthusiastic she was acting.
"I think you'll be the perfect fit with us" Boden added.
"Sure, when do you need me?" Stella asked.
"Next shift? We've sorted the transfer, just report to us on your next shift for your induction"
"Sure, thank you for the opportunity" She shook his hand before leaving the office.
She ended her shift as usual. This time, she emptied her crooked locker before leaving for home. The looks she would get off the other firefighters always made her feel she wasn't enough. She worked her ass off to get to where she was and no one seemed to appreciate the fact she was a kick ass firefighter.
________________________________Stella arrived at firehouse 51, she made her way up the drive as the cold winter breeze hit her perfectly slicked back pony tail. She was greeted by a petite blonde haired paramedic who was tidying up her Ambo.
"Morning, you must be our new recruit?" Brett asked as she saw Stella approach.
"Yes, that's me, could you point me to Chief Boden's office please?" Stella asked.
"Sure, head through the doors to your left and it's straight down the hall" she said with a smile.
Stella felt welcomed already. She made her way inside as a group of firefighters were headed out with their bags, shift must of ended for them. She entered into the hall to the fresh smell of bleached floors. Laughter filled the station. She felt warm inside knowing she had been chosen for this. They wanted her.
She composed herself before knocking on the Chiefs office. She was met by a tall blonde haired man alongside Chief.
"You must be Stella Kidd" he asked as he held out his hand.
"Yes, that's me"
"Lieutenant Matthew Casey" he said as he held a firm grip on her hand as he shook.
"Nice to meet you"
Her smile filled her face, she was grinning from ear to ear as her pearly whites stood out. They got talking and introducing themselves. The office was filled with joy and laughter as it felt like home. Finally, she found somewhere she belonged. She had a tour of the firehouse as Boden and Casey showed her around, greeting some of the others she would be on shift with. She finished her paperwork and headed out for home as their shift had just finished and she would join them for their next.
