Reunited (My au of Danganronpa v3; this is basically my SaiMatsu story)

Chapter 4

No P.O.V.

"I missed you too. More than you could ever know."

Those words held so much meaning, and still so much pain. After what happened in the Incident, Shuichi was weighed down with grief and guilt. His failure to solve the mysteries of the Incident resulted in-

No. She's here now. That's all that matters. It doesn't matter how. This has to be real. This  is real, right? It has to be, Shuichi thought, trying to get a clear head as he held Kaede in his arms. But still, this seems impossible. How is she...

Resigning himself to ask the question later, Shuichi gently wiped Kaede's tears from her cheeks with his thumb. Kaede held his hand to her cheek where it rested, closing her eyes.

It was bliss for the both of them. To be together once again; to hold each other close. This...

This was all they needed.

...It was as if their pain was just taken away as they stayed like this. It was as if they were alone in the heavens...

And it happened.

Kaede smiled through her tears as she looked up at Shuichi; her first genuine, happy smile since the Incident. Seeing her like this, Shuichi couldn't help but smile too, even though his face was streaked with tears just as much as hers was. Kaede's smile grew brighter when she saw Shuichi grinning, and with a teary giggle, she nuzzled closer to him. Shuichi's face turned pink, but he let out an endearing chuckle and rested his chin on the top of Kaede's head as his arms encircled her.

They stayed this way for a while. 

In the middle of the square, surrounded by crowds of people, a boy and a girl found their happiness.

After a while, Kaede spoke. "This is all so... surreal... I never thought I would see you again..." She faltered, her brief happiness struggling not to succumb to the despairing thoughts in her head. "I thought... I lost you forever..."

"I thought I lost you too," Shuichi said ruefully. "After..." He trailed off; his voice hitching in his throat. Because he couldn't say it. The two both knew what happened, and neither of them could say a thing about it. Shuichi's eyes began to sting again; he felt tears threatening to fall and he fiercely blinked them away.

Shuichi didn't say it, but Kaede knew all too well what he was going to say. The mere thought of it brought memories to the forefront of her mind that tortured her every time they came. Feeling the panic and hysteria rise inside of her, she gave a reassuring smile and quickly said, "B-but that's all in the past now! I- I mean..." Kaede could feel Shuichi's concerned gaze piercing through her and hurriedly composed herself. "I- It's just..." She gave a small sigh. "We have each other now, and I believe that together, we can leave what happened in the past behind." Kaede said this with a determined yet kind smile. "I believe in you." Shuichi was slightly taken aback by her words and was a little confused by her sudden changes in emotion, but he resolved his expression into a small smile and said, "I believe in you too."

Author's note:

Aahh this took me so long! I was trying to get this done really quickly but uhhhh yeah stuff happened (gomen nasai!!!!!)
But WOOHOO HECK YEAH I finiiiishhheddddddd (even though it wasn't much sorry! I will make a sort of part two to this because I keep ending my chapters at a weird spot, hang in there guys)
