THIS WAS THE FARTHEST FROM HOME THAT ANYA HAD EVER BEEN.
She had lied and told Grayson she was going to the library early that next day. He had muttered an okay, not sparing her a glance as he typed away on his computer. Anya snagged the amplifier and met Bucky outside his apartment.
"So who is this person you know?" Anya said as she looked around at the military hangar they were in.
She looked up at the high ceilings, almost falling backwards. People milled about, barely giving them a second look. Bucky nudged her along so they could keep walking.
"He's right there." Bucky replied, walking faster so he was leading the way.
Anya looked to see Sam Wilson coming down the stairs. She had seen him on TV, he was the Falcon. This was Bucky's friend? She glanced at his face, Bucky's jaw set and eyes narrowed. Okay, maybe not friends.
"Shouldn't have given up the shield." Bucky called out to him.
"Good to see you too, Buck." Sam replied and continued to walk right past them.
"This is wrong." Bucky said, following Sam. Anya trailed after them.
"Hey, hey, look," Same shook his head. "I'm working, all right? So all this outrage is gonna have to wait."
"You didn't know that was gonna happen?" Bucky pointed to a poster that read "Cap is back!" with a picture of John Walker on it.
"No," Sam sighed. "Of course I didn't know that was gonna happen. You think it didn't break my heart to see him march out there and call him the new Captain America?"
"Well he didn't look like much." Anya said.
Sam turned his head to look at her, just noticing that she was there. He looked from her to Bucky as they stopped walking.
"And you are...?" Sam raised an eyebrow at her.
"She's with me." Bucky said.
"Hi, I'm Anya." She stuck out her hand and Sam shook it, a confused look on his face. "Big fan."
"Does she need a cough drop?" He asked Bucky.
To their surprise, Anya laughed. She looked at Bucky.
"You didn't say he was funny, Buck." She said.
"Anya's like me." Bucky told Sam, ignoring her comment. "She escaped Hydra a while back after they experimented on her."
