First encounter with the infected:
"Joy, I get to clean up and close shop!" Sara said to herself as she kicked a soda cup across the floor. With dwindling numbers of employees due to the Green flu, Sara was asked to stay late. She didn't want to, but the boss said she would get a raise if she did. As she walked lazily around she went through her mental checklist again for the third time.
" Dishes done," she said to herself, "closed /opened sign flipped, windows washed, ice dispenser refilled, all I have to do is wash the tables and sweep the floor."
Sara went to the back room to get a disinfectant and a rag. She went behind the counter and found the wiping rag. She went to the back room and opened the door. It was dark; she need to find the light. She went in the room, waving her arms slowly back and forth to find the light cord. When she found it she pulled, the light blinding her for a few seconds. After blinking a couple times she looked for the disinfectant. She looked around for a bit when she found it. It was on top shelf, just out of her reach.
" Of course it's there," Sara said.
She walked to the shelf and reached her arms towards the disinfectant but it was just out of her reach. She stood on her toes and still wasn't able to grab it. Sara steped up on the bottom shelf and was able to grab the bottle. She lowered it to face level. She unscrewed the cap and looked inside to see the light green liquid at the bottom.
" Silly little container, thought you could hid -"
A loud thud rang out mid-sentence. It almost sounded like fists on glass. The loud noise made Sara jump, causing her to drop the container. It landed on it's side, spilling the green liquid on the floor.
"Shit," Sara exclaimed in an annoyed tone.
She did not want to deal with another customer which would further elongate her her time at work.
"We're closed," she yelled.
There was no response. Sara pick up the the container and threw the rag on the floor to soke up the split cleaner when she heard the front door open. The sound of the bell angered her. She decided that the customer wouldn't leave and with one last wipe, picked up the rag and threw it in the corner. She wiped her hands on her pants, put a smile on her face and went out to meet the customer.
" Hello, how may I-" is all Sara got out before she saw the customer. What she saw made her want to scream. The customer looked like a monster. His jaw was torn off. Blood was stained into his blue shirt. His tongue hung down in a sickly manor. His top teeth were chipped or missing entirety.
The man looked at Sara with his milky white eyes. They stared at each other for a second when he ran towards Sara screaming as he got closer. She ran towards the door but the man cut her off. Before she could run away the man leaped on her. It pinned her to the ground. With his legs on her hips and his hands on her shoulders, it tried to pull her closer. Sara grabbed his neck and pushed him away trying to get his face as far away from hers. She screamed as he pulled her hair. She twisted her leg so it moved freely and kicked him right in the groin. It had no effect.
"What the fuck are you," Sara screamed.
Grabbing him with her left hand, she hit him with her right fist, knocking him off of her. She got up and looked for something to hit him with. She saw the mop in the far corner. She ran to the corner and grabbed the mop. Just as she turned around the man grabbed the mop. She nugged him away and hit him in the head with the mop, shattering the mop head. He stumbled back and she closes her eyes as she thrusted the stick at him screaming. She was met with a force against the handle but held on. Sara opened her eyes to see the stick poking out of his eye and possibly in to his brain. Brain, eye jelly, and blood oozed out of the socket. She twisted the mop handle and shifted him to the side where he fell to the floor.
Sara fell to her knees and whispered, "What have I done?"
