During breakfast the next morning, after being fed from hangover twisted psychopaths, Chloe saw me put my right hand over my heart.
"What's wrong?" she asked me, crunching on yet, another bowl of oatmeal that we were given.
"My heart beats weird... I can't believe my heart has been beating for this long, because sometimes, it doesn't seem like it's beating at all," apparently my words struck them deep because everyone just started focusing on something else.
"We're horrible people..." Chloe sobbed randomly, after a while of sitting in mere silence.
"Chloe, how?" Kelsey asked, rubbing Chloe's arm in comfort.
"Think about it guys, what we did to Destin was horrible. I'm beginning to think Lukas was right, we might deserve this shit," she continued crying. I glanced next to me at Taylor, who was picking at her fingernail.
"You're wrong Chloe," Kelsey spoke in denial.
Chloe argued back, "Destin did not deserve what we did to him. I honestly don't want to show my face in that school again, and I honestly doubt that anyone at school misses us."
"It was a misunderstanding Chloe, you know that," I explained.
"It was at first, and you know it," exposed Chloe, which left the room in dead silence. I feel as though I need to give an explanation.
Nearing the end of Sophomore Year, in about the month of April, Destin came to me paranoid, and a bit worried at my locker.
"Kassidy, this is the 5th time this week I have gotten a damn threat note in my backpack, and one yesterday was shoved in my locker. It wasn't your handwriting. So someone in this building is giving them to me. They know where I live, locker number, phone number, and my school schedule!" The way he was showing fear, made me almost believe this was real, but it wasn't. I remembered specifically Taylor and Kelsey writing out some letters a few weeks back on Winter Break at my house one night, and as far as I knew, they weren't going to stop.
During the next few days, I started taking money from Destin's money drawer again, but this time around, I only took money when Destin strangled me. For me, it was a little bit of a way to get back at him. I'm not trying to play the victim, but in this scenario, Destin and I were both each other's victims. The funny thing was, each time I begged him to let go, and he finally did, he'd apologize.
At the beginning of May, I spent the night at Kelsey's apartment with Taylor and Chloe, Destin did not know. Since months had passed when Chloe was bound to the wheelchair, she could finally walk on her own again. At this sleepover, since Chloe was still enduring harassment and bullying at school, she revealed something to the three of us which I had not expected her to say.
"Guys, when everything with Destin spreading my picture around school and everything started, I made something out of anger." She then took out her cellphone and showed a Facebook profile of Destin's which was different from his current one.
"I'm confused," I said.
"It's a fake profile of his that I made. I acted like it was his real one and told people that this was his new profile. But I hadn't done anything with it lately," Chloe explained.
"What was the point of doing that?" Taylor asked.
"Because if we are rude to people at school, Destin's social life will go down the drain." Chloe was brilliant. And with this new form of harassment we took on together, I realized what I could do next.
