chapter nine

After Daniel greeted Amelia in a very welcoming and unexpected way, Amelia couldn't help but feel giddy and happy whenever she locked gazes with the faux blonde- Daniel sending her a wink before he left the room to leave the two girls alone to get ready.

She found it weird to feel this way, knowing that their current relationship was based on acts they had to do because they had to make people believe they were an actual couple. Amelia couldn't fight the feeling, but she genuinely liked Daniel ever since they started hanging out more, and couldn't help but think that maybe he felt the same.

"So how'd you two meet?" Zara spoke up after the girls finished their second glass of wine, having a conversation without the boys giving them the opportunity to have some time for girl talk.

Amelia couldn't help but chuckle, "The little fucker stole my shots at the bar and I wouldn't let him get away with it," She rolled her eyes playfully as she placed her glass down onto the laminated floor of Corbyn's bedroom, the girls getting ready in there.

Zara laughed and shook her head as she stuck her fake lashes on, "I did not know that was actually you! I remember really loving your dress but failing to tell you after Daniel scooped you away."

"Really? Thank you, that's so cute," Amelia smiled, running her fingers through her wavy hair before sighing slightly, "I'm actually really scared for tonight.. Like- I- I don't know what to expect or how to act in front of all of those people."

Zara placed her lipgloss back into her make-up bag, turning to meet Amelia's gaze. The blonde reached for her hands before giving them a tight and assuring squeeze. "It's all going to be okay," She stated, "I can assure you all of the people attending tonight are super nice, and if you don't feel comfortable just shoot me a look and I'll scoop you away."

The brunette nodded her head and smiled at Zara, feeling slightly better knowing there was someone willing to jump in and make sure she was okay.

A knock on the doorframe startled both of the girls, Daniel's tall frame leaning against the wood with his hands stuffed into his black dressy pants. Amelia forgot she and Zara weren't the only ones going full out for a fancy dinner night, and to see Daniel dressed up like this made her heart flip inside her chest. He looked astonishing.

"You stealin' my girlfriend, Zee?" He joked, referring to the two girls still holding each other's hands. It caused both of them to laugh and help each other up.

Amelia smoothed out the white silk she bought with Daniel just hours before, feeling much more confident in the material now that her hair and make-up was done, dainty gold jewelry hanging around her neck.

And Daniel could see that too. The brunette smiled at him as he reached out his hand for her to grab, her soft fingertips brushing his skin making his hands feel clammy.

"She's a stunner," Zara smirked, "Don't mind if I do!"

Before Daniel was able to answer the blonde, she already slipped out of the bedroom to look for her own boyfriend- leaving Amelia and Daniel by themselves.

"Like I said before," Daniel mumbled, lightly pulling her hand, causing her body to bump into his, "You look fucking beautiful."

Amelia stumbled forward and placed her free hand onto his chest to keep herself steady, eyes locked on Daniel's as she was slightly in shock with how close the two of them were being without anyone surrounding them.

"Daniel," She whispered, "We're alone, Zara and Corbyn are in the kitchen. No need to act right now."

"I'm not," He cleared his throat, quickly wetting his lips with his tongue before his eyes met hers again.

The tension was thick between them and Amelia was thinking Daniel felt the same as her. The way his blue and kind eyes were carefully scanning her face, searching for some confirmation from her side. The way he still held her hand close, and his thumb brushing the back of it looking as a gesture to keep her calm and collective.

Daniel reached forward to brush a strand of wavy hair behind her ear, calloused fingertips brushing her rosy skin. The silence around them felt comfortable, as if they were in their own little world and nobody was able to pop the bubble.

Daniel's hand cupped Amelia's cheek, the brunette leaning into his soft touch. They both didn't realize it, but when their noses were nearly touching it was clear they both felt the same.

"Let's go lovebirds!" Corbyn yelled from the hallway, causing both of them to feel startled at getting shaken out of their little bubble. "It's time!"

The faux blonde smirked and licked his lips before letting his eye drop into a subtle wink, pulling her behind him as they were still holding hands.

Amelia let out an inaudible sigh before following behind Daniel, her heart ready to beat out of her chest when she thought back of the little moment they just had. It was just the two of them, nobody to impress and nobody to persuade into believing they were a couple. Amelia wasn't sure if they were just caught up in the moment, but she sure as hell realized Daniel actually liked her back. And that feeling made her heart flutter every time she thought of him.

About an hour into the dinner, Amelia started to feel more and more comfortable with being herself. She was seated between Daniel and Zara, knowing that Zara came sitting next to her to make sure she was okay.

In a round of casual truth or dare to get to know everyone a little bit better, Jack's girlfriend Harley was talking about how she tried to set up Jonah for a date with a girl, but failed miserably once she realized the girl despised morning coffee. It caused Amelia to laugh, knowing that her best friend Kayla was just the same as Jonah and that the two would get along perfectly fine if they'd ever meet.

"Alright Amelia!" Harley spoke up, sending her a big smile as she raised her glass to toast, "I can say on the behalf of the group that we're glad Daniel finally found a girl he can spoil to bits, and a girl that we actually like."

It caused the rest of the group to laugh and Daniel to flip off the raven haired girl, wrapping the arm that lay across the back of Amelia's seat to curl around her shoulders to pull her closer.

"She's right," Daniel mumbled before carefully turning her head to place a few small kisses onto her lips, "Cheers to you, pretty girl."
