I clench my jaw as I try my hardest to remain calm. But in all honesty I'm freaking out on the inside. I mean, I've done this kind of thing before, but never been this nervous during a situation like this, but then again, it's been two years ever since this bull shit happened. On top of that, I have a son.

I grip the stearing wheel tighter, and letting out a huff as I come to a red light.

"Come on!" I say raising my voice, and hitting the wheel, more than frustrated.

I was just out at the jewelry store, trying to do something nice for the mother of my child, trying to live my normal life, but no, my past has to pop up; come and fuck shit up. When I got a phone call from her, her words where shaky and in a very hushed tone. I couldn't tell whether she was crying or not, but I know she was scared. "--there was shooting a-nd bullets were going through the windows, and there is glass e-everywhere! I don't know what to do!"

All I knew to do was comfort her and direct her until I got home. I told her to hide in the closet, of course with our son by her side.

When I finally made it to the driveway I was about to open the garage to park, but just as I was about to press the button of garage control, a familiar feeling was running through my veins: caution.

I can't open the garage, there's possibly a bomb installed into the door of it. I look around. There aren't any cars in sight, and the next house would be about a mile away. I look at the house, and recognize the bullet holes present.

I take yet another look at my surroundings, and decide that it's safe for me to get out of my car.

I jogged up to the door and unlocked it to let myself in.

"Baby! It's me!" I called out.

It wasn't long until I hear the rumbling of her feet upstairs and her making her way down the stairs to me with Wesley around her waist.

"Oh my God!" I breathed taking Wesley from her and holding him tight.

I knew he was safe. If not, Babe wouldn't have been on the phone, she's a great mother and I know she'd die before letting anything happen to him, but I needed the satisfaction of seeing him and knowing myself.

"Daddy! I protected mommy!" He exclaimed in my arms.

I distanced our hug but still holding him to where I could see him. "Oh yeah?" I asked, feeling a mixture of sadness, and being proud of my confident son.

"Yeah! There a boom and a bang! And mommy got scared and she hugged me. But when we went in closet, she cry, and I wipe her face and say 'it okay mommy, nothing hurt you'." He rushed to say.

I cracked a faint smile, "Good job little man."

I finally brought my attention to Babe who was standing before us, trying to hold back tears still. She smiled at me because of what Wesley just said, but I know she was terrified by the events that had just happens minutes ago.

"Hey baby." I say leaning forward to kiss her soft lips.

After kissing me, she ran a hand through the front of her hair until it couldn't go any further, because of the hair tie she had in that held her bun up high.

"Honey, what do we do?" She sighs.

I frowned at her saddend features. "Go put on some shoes." I told her.

She nodded before leaving the room.

I sat Wes on the kitchen counter after I found his shoes and pushed them onto his smaller version of my feet, and tied them. I never thought I would have to do this again.
