Past snow-capped mountains,
Hills high and low,
On my coracle of dreams
I flow, I go, I flow.
Through dark and dusty caverns
And caves with worms that glow,
On my coracle of dreams,
I go, I flow I go.
Bidding thus farewell to the birds and bees
And to those cheeky monkeys sitting in their trees,
On my coracle of dreams
I go, I sail, I'm free!
Past snow-capped mountains,
Hills high and low,
Through dark and dusty caverns
And caves with worms that glow,
I carry on from past,
To meet today steadfast!
I rowed then slowly, on and on.
My destination was far, forever and anon.
But in my sad and sorry plight,
I saw so many wondrous sights.
Goldfish which speak on today and tomorrow,
Nightingales which sing their songs of sorrow,
Trees that breathe, give space to weed.
For hope and for joy they give their seed.
A wonderful land! A glorious land!
A land that was beautiful,
Bigger than clans,
A land that was glorious,
For together were the sands.
The sun lay there and the moon rose on
Until at last,it was time for dawn.
Then in gold the land was soaked
And the creatures all came.out and spoke.
There was a frog, which lived in the bog
And many a trout in the long river's snout.
A hare a crow, a rat and a deer
And amongst them all there dwelt a seer.
Of all that happened, he did know,
For he spoke with the sun when it ceased to glow.
Of all that happened, he did dream,
For the moon told of all under her beam.
Thus he was wise
And just and right.
Of all the creatures,
He had the greatest foresight.
Seeing then a stranger in his land,
He looked at me,
Beckoning with his hand.
"Come." He said, "Come to me."
So I ran hard past the ponds and trees.
Panting hard, gasping for breath,
I lay there, gazing at fair land's breadth.
Said the seer, as if he were my peer,
" Hear, my friend, have rest and cheer."
All are welcome in the land that was
And all that was created not."
I understood little of what he said
And lesser still went into my head.
I asked then what he meant to mean
And what was this place that could be seen.
"Tis the land of broken dreams, fair.and clear,
So fret not, my friend, it's time for cheer!"
Then all at once, it dawned, the truth!
And boy, did it my nerves soothe!
Every dead pet, every lost toy,
Was here to mend, to live and enjoy!
"Thank you!" I said, "Thank you so much!"
And already a lost teddy bear I clutched.
"Stay then here, to your heart's content.
Breakfast is at seven, but you can have it at ten."
At these words, I jumped.with joy!
I left to see.lost friends; girls and boys.
Many I met, many I saw,
But their hearts on seeing me,
Like snow.in spring, did not thaw.
All their gazes were ice and maw.
Spoke I to a friend of mine,
"What happened to you? Are you fine?"
He looked at me.like.cork untwined,
His words were sour milk and wine.
"Why are you here? Who are you?
You look like you belong at the zoo.
I don't need anything, definitely not you.
After all, you are a broken dream too."
Then the truth, like day, had dawned.
Because of my desires, I had been pawned.
I ran hard, I made all haste.
To me the fair land was all but waste.
I took up in my coracle
And rowed away.
Far I went,
Past the hidden bay.
Last I saw the seer so wise.
Looking on he told me, "You chose right!"
I rowed on hard, to hearth and home
And found it there past tree and stone.
A broken dream I looked for a while,
But now I was whole, I was all right.
From this journey, one thing I learnt:
Let go of the past, be not concerned.
