Overall, today had been a normal day for the one and only Elizabeth Schuyler.
She smiled as her sister walked in, saying hi to her before going back to work.
"Really, that's all I get 'Liza? Just a 'Hi'?" Her older sister, Angelica Schuyler, asked her while pretending to be hurt by the lack of attention she received from her little sister. Smiling at her sister, Eliza just rolled her eyes before reaching underneath the counter to grab a cup.
"The usual?" She asked nonchalantly, ignoring what Angelica had said to her. Sighing in defeat, the older girl just nodded before sitting down at a table in the corner. Eliza quickly got to work, making tea for Angelica and a hot chocolate for herself.
She then walked over to her older sister, drinks in hand, before sitting down. The girls talked for a while, Angelica telling Eliza all about how her day at work had gone. Angelica had just graduated college and gotten a job at a bookstore, while Eliza was still in college, along with their youngest sister Peggy, who was a year younger than Eliza and two years younger than Angelica.
As Eliza was putting the girls cups away, the jingling of the bell on the door alerted the girl that someone had come in. Looking up, Eliza was automatically stunned. This woman was absolutely gorgeous, like someone you'd read about in a fairytale. She was wearing a red dress and her makeup was dark around her eyes. She was wearing winged eyeliner, though you could still tell that she was tired.
And her lips... Her lips were painted a dark shade of red, almost the color of blood. Eliza hadn't even realized she was staring at the woman until she heard Angelica laughing.
" 'Liza, you might want to say something instead of just staring at her." Angelica told her younger sister while laughing.
"O-Oh right!" Eliza said, turning to face the woman in who was standing at the counter.
"What can I get you?" The woman looked at the menu behind Eliza, before looking directly at the girl. When their eyes met, Eliza swore she saw something in the woman's eyes. It was like she hesitated to even speak to Eliza, much less tell her what she wanted."Um... I'll have one large coffee with two shots of espresso please." Eliza nodded and turned around, grabbing a cup and making the coffee quickly. Once she was finished she handed it to the woman, smiling at her slightly as she did. The woman gave a small smile back, before paying for the coffee and walking out.
Turning to her sister, Eliza looked at Angelica.
"Did something... like, seem off about her to you?" She asked, waiting for Angelica's response.
"What do you mean?""I mean... She just seemed a bit wary..."
"I'm sure it was nothing, besides, it's time to go home." And with that, Angelica stood up and walked over to Eliza, grabbing her by the hand and pulling her to the car so they could make it back in time for dinner.
But Eliza couldn't help but wonder about the woman in red.
