"Quiet for a change," Mirko said, walking down the street with Hawks. It was a sunny day and the city was buzzing, and Hawks and Mirko were walking a new patrol route the commission had set up for them to look after.
"Maybe we can actually sit and have lunch for a change, maybe sushi?" Hawks chuckled, putting his hand behind his head enjoying the sun beaming on him while they walked. Mirko nodded in agreement enjoying the sun as well, suddenly two teenage girls ran between
Hawks and Mirko, knocking into them.
"Hurry up! she's started," one of the girls said, pulling her friend.
"Hey you two slow down," Hawks called after them, "Jeez, kids these days."
Mirko shook her head, "Such an old man," she chuckled, turning the corner. The two heroes were caught off guard by a small crowd gathering, Mirko looked confused and turned to an old man next to her, "Sir is everything okay here, is someone hurt?" The old man turned around and smiled, "Oh the pros are here. No dear, everything is fine. People are here for her," he answered, turning back to the crowd.
"Her?" Mirko questioned, looking for the person everyone was gathered for. Mirko's ears start twitching, "What is it Rumi?" Hawks asked.
"A... piano, someone is playing piano."
The music was subtle at first, then started getting louder and louder, Hawks tried to see where it was coming from but couldn't see anyone, "Who is playing that?" One of the girls that ran into him turned around, "No one knows, it's coming from one of those apartments, the last couple weeks at random times. I don't think she knows people can hear her but, she's amazing."
"How do you know it's not a man?" Hawks asked, being snarky.
"Sometimes she sings. I hope she does today, she's amazing," the girl smiled and turned around, joining her friend.
Hawks looked at the apartments across the street, seeing people come onto their balconies to listen. Hawks started listening to the music with everyone; the piano was beautiful, but it sounded so familiar. He didn't realize he was doing it but, Hawks' started pressing his fingers on the side of his legs as if he was following along with the mystery pianist. Mirko chuckled, "You remember how to play?" Hawks looked at her confused, "What?" Mirko pointed at his still phantom playing fingers, "You're playing on your legs." Hawks looked down at his hands then stopped," No I haven't played in years. Not since... I just recognized the song is all. Let's go, we still have more then half the route to do." As Hawks and Mirko walked the rest of the patrol route, Hawks couldn't help but let his mind wander back to the song that was playing, and the memory attached to it.
"What are you thinking about Keigo?" Mirko asked, walking back into Hawk;s hero agency.
"Weirdly enough, high school," he chuckled, flopping onto the lobby couch, putting his feet up and his head back.
Mirko laughed, pushing his feet down and sitting beside him, "High school? What the hell for?"
"That song, the song from earlier that the mystery piano player was playing. I recognized it from high school... the first song I ever heard her play."
Mirko looked at him confused, "Heard who play?"
Hawks sighed remembering her face, his heart break, "Kirni... remember her?"
